Hi all. I've had a 24' Robalo dual-console, here in the Long Beach CA area, for a little over a year now. It's my first boat, and I've honestly had a lot of fun on it. Learning how to handle it single-handed, doing maintenance, repair, and modifications, etc, was exactly what I wanted out of my first boat.
But now that I've had my own boat for a while now, I've learned what I enjoy on the water. Short of the few times I've pulled a friend on a wakeboard or foil, going fast isn't it. I'm seriously considering a Ranger Tug as my first cruising boat. Going a little slower, and having some creature comforts, sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. Plus, these models aren't so large of a boat that taking it out for the day seems like a major production. I figure it can still be used as a great day-boating platform.
With that in mind, I'm looking for a couple of owners in my area, who might be willing to take me out for an hour or two on an early R-29, with the Yanmar 6BY2 engine, and the same for the "2nd generation" R-29S, with the Volvo D4. Noise, vibration, and harshness is a major consideration for me, which is why I've always had an affinity for Inline-6 engines.
I realize the R-29S with the Volvo has a number of other enhancements, particularly to the cockpit and seating, but I'd welcome the chance to experience the two boats first-hand.
I'll happily chip in for fuel.
