I managed to break the chain and loose the fuel fill cap on my Cutwater 28. I bought a "standard" cap at West Marine but it is not the right size. Can you tell me what size the cap is and better still, tell me where I can buy one?

Thanks

Paul A Jones

Cutwater ranger has it on their parts list. I had to remove the chain to get the fuel fill nozzle to fit in the deck fitting. I ordered a spare from Richard at the parts department at Ranger/ Cutwater. Its inevitable it will go in the drink.

There should be really some attachment on the outside where you can connect a lanyard or similar to prevent such loss

Thats what I said! I removed the chain the day I took delivery of the boat. We went to fill it up with fuel at the fuel dock. This location was where the dealers show room was located. I asked him how do you get the nozzle to fit in the fuel deck fitting? Response" you may have to break it they don't always fit with the chain ". Really !! My next question was " whats the chances of that cap going in the drink? Answer" probably should buy a spare from Cutwater" I did and so far... I'm knocking on wood as I type this I haven't dropped it yet  .

Didn’t quite come out the way I intended. I agree the chain is in the way. What I was suggesting was an externally affixed lanyard to prevent loss of the cap

An external lanyard would be looking for something to snag it.
