My 2013 CB31 Gamin Display and Auto Pilot stopped connecting now producing the message, "Lost Heading Sensor Connection" the Navigation screen while the autohelm screen messages, "Searching for autopilot controller."

Thank for your ideas on how to restore this.

turn off the house battery breaker
turn on the house battery breaker.
start the autopilot controller and then start the garmin display reasonably quickly after you start the controller.

i.e. give it a reboot

usually fixes that error message for me.

I will 2nd Gavin's advice; shut house power down for a minute then power back up. This has worked every time for us.

If the reset procedure doesn’t work, I had success getting mine back online after disconnecting the satellite (galley) fusion controller from the NMEA2000 backbone

otherwise I would check to see if any changes were recently made to the NMEA network or a cable has come loose.

I have a 2012 R27. When I experienced the “Searching For Autopilot Controller” issue five years ago, after extensive connector reseating, etc., I found the problem was actually the Autopilot Controller blade fuse in the 12V Power Distribution Panel (PDP) had extensive corrosion on the blades. Pulled the fuse, cleaned the corrosion off the blades and all has been good ever since.

When I get that error, I shut down the autopilot, disconnect and reconnect the power and data inputs to the display and this clears the error every time.

As one of my IT executives once advised: “Trust the Reboot”! Ah, if it was only that simple.

Thanks to all of those who responded to my request for suggestions around the "Lost Heading Sensor Connection" and the autohelm message of "searching for autopilot controller."

Turing off the house battery selector switch and then restarting the Navigation Screen and then the autohelm worked like a charm!

Many thanks.
