This is a question on the heat pump on the luxury edition. When I turn on the heat after about 3 minutes I'll hear the compressor turn on. It will run for about 2 minutes and blow hot air. Then it turns off and I get cold air for 20 minutes. Also the high, medium, and low settings on the fan don't seem to change the air speed.

I was told my ranger tugs this is normal. My question to you all is if you have this system if you turn on the heat can you keep it on? Also when you change fan speed can you feel a speed change? In the pacific nw this system does not seem useful if this is normal.

Thanks

Brian, when the heat is coming out of the vent do you have water coming out the discharge outlet on the boats hull? Assuming so, when it goes to cool is the water still coming out or not? Assuming not….if this is the case it sounds like you need to turn the heat temperature up. If it’s the same systems we had on our 2018 R29S the fan is always on when the unit is turned on. When it’s not producing heat or A/C the unit just circulates the cabin air. Personally I prefer to have the option fit the fan to stop when not producing heat or air.

Brian I'm not sure what manufacture the Ac/H unit you have. I have the factory installed Dometic 16000 BTU. There are settings with it auto heat/cool and also auto fan. Or you can set the air unit for cool only/ heat only and continuous fan at a setting of 1 through 5. Using continuous fan set at 3 the fan will blow air and never change speed. If it is set at 5 (high) it will blow all the time at high. When set on auto the fan will adjust as the cooling or heat is needed. The biggest issue that I have found with my unit is the location of the thermostat. The thermostat is located in the entry of the mid berth. I have learned to set the temperature based on what the temperature reading is at the thermostat not what I what it to be in the cabin. I have a thermometer located by the helm this tells me what the temperature is in the living area. Sometimes there is 10F difference between the thermometer located at the helm and what the thermostat is reading. Example: Thermometer reads 60F, The thermostat is set at 70F and reads 70F compressor is off, just blows air. I now will set the thermostat to 80F and now it will heat until the thermostat registers 80F but the thermometer at the helm now reads 70F.

When I am using the heat mode I always keep the blower set on auto. The fan will blow on high when the unit is producing heat and when the compressor shuts down the fan speed will lower to the (1) setting just lightly circulating air. When I have the unit on cool mode I set the fan to blow a continuous speed on high I want as much air movement as I can get when keeping the cabin cool.

Look at the manual for operating features of the unit. There are all kinds of programing features available to set the unit up for your needs.

Thank you guys this sounds really helpful. It sounds like I do have a problem. I turn the heat all the way up and it doesn't change how it behaves. Also the fan speed never changes.

Hi foreverwise,

The best thing to do would be to reach out to your dealer to help get this diagnosed. That way we can be sure what the issue is and help resolve it. Please reach out to them and they will do what they can to help get it resolved.

Thank you,

Ralf

Unfortunately the dealer says its normal. So I am going to make some videos to prove its a problem. Getting my boat hasn't been a fun experience. Kinda a lemon.

I just picked up my R-27 a few weeks ago The heating worked well once the heater started up the unit which took a few minutes after the water pump started. it has not been hot enough to properly test cooling yet. the one issue i did have that my dealer immediately solved was that I had something in the quarterbirth blocking the cold air intake. once I moved the window covers blocking the intake it worked well all night. the intake is in the quarter birth under the helm seat.

Hey Brian,

I have a 2021 R27 also, my heat goes on and off with fan blowing hot then cool when the compressor shuts off. It does seem to cycle more before it reaches temp setting. I called the manufacture and was told the fan does change in rpm but we can't tell by ear. not like a car blower.
Also he said the best fan setting is auto. If it is on low and the pressure/temp in lines get high it will shut off the compressor. makes sense.
I would make sure the light is on the bottom (Heat) on mode side and turn the temp. up to highest heat setting. auto fan and check to see if water flow is coming out the discharge fitting starboard side. Try the settings if everything else looks normal.

My discharge is scattered water not a round smooth stream like my other boats? It's on my list to check out why it is like that.
I have left mine on overnight and it maintained the heat temp regardless of the cycling and noise.

The dealer said they wired out the sensor and it works well now until it gets a over heat error.
