Macerator discharge and Canada?

Looking to buy R27
So our (new to us) R27 was ordered with the macerator option. Do they automatically come with a overboard discharge? Or is it just a hose to run to a RV sewer? Here in the great lakes an overboard discharge is not permittable, and for good reason. My question is, will Canada allow me to have a system that will discharge overboard? As I recall, years ago (30 years ago) we went to the North Channel and Georgian Bay, and we couldn't have porta potties because they could be dumped overboard. I did some research and it just said that you can't discharge. Nothing about customs making you disable the system or not letting you into the country. Thanks

I assume it would be like the Puget Sound in Washington, where discharge is also illegal. The coast guard requires a zip tie to secure the valve closed, or some other similar method to ensure overboard discharge cannot be used. However, when I go up to BC, I can remove the zip tie and use the pump to discharge.

Given that discharge is legal in Canada in some waters, the same thing would make sense.

Zip tie used to be acceptable, but I understand now they are requiring something slightly more difficult to bypass. Removing the handle so the valve cannot be opened is deemed to be more effective than a zip tie that can easily be cut off. I remove the handle now which is easy and quick, store it in a zip lock bag somewhere and all is good.

Thanks for the replies. Research is not bringing definitive answers. May have to dig a little deeper.

I was just at the seattle boat show and the coast guard auxiliary booth was handing out long orange zip ties for this purpose

Of course the best solution is to use a pumpout station. In BC here’s a list of locations.

Unfortunately, in a decade of cruising in BC waters, these pumpouts may be out of service 25-50 percent of the time during cruising season. We have found the pumpouts at Ganges, Comox and Lund to be out of service frequently.,

The general rule in BC for overboard marine sewage discharge is that you must be 3 nm from ANY land. In practice this limits pretty much limits black water discharge to the middle of the Strait of Georgia.

Our Journey can go 9 days between pumpouts. We plan to pumpout at Roche Harbor before heading north into the Gulf Islands. If we are going to be in the Gulf Islands longer than 9 days we call ahead to find working pumpout locations.

Always a good idea to carry pumpout adapters with you. Don’t assume a BC pumpout facility will have a soft rubber nozzle to use.

We are still looking for the proper adaptor for our R27 2024 to pump out. Haven’t found the correct one yet. If anyone’s has specs or direction, would be appreciated.

We used this for both our 2009 R-25 and 2017 C-28 with success. Not positive it’s the same size as needed for a 2024.
CAMLOCK - 125F POLYPROPYLENE CAM & GROOVE FITTING; 1-1/4 INCH MALE ADAPTER X 1-1/4INCH MALE NPT https://a.co/d/i2T9kcT
And some 1 1/4 “ ABS or PVC NPT (11.5 TPI) male threaded (both ends) nipples and a double female threaded 1 1/4” coupler.
If you want to get fancy you could use a 90 degree coupler. Which is what we did to get a better angle to the pumpout hose. Should be under $20 total.

We were in Lund last year and the pumpout looked relatively new, but it cost $10 and you had to wait for the harbormaster to unlock it.

Does anyone use Nozal adapter like this one?

Curious why its better? Does it screw in better? that's the issue I've had in the past--stripping the threads.

Your pump out is stainless, and the adapter is plastic. What threads did you strip? Are you sure the adapter you got was the right TPI? There are 2 different sizes, and the RTs typically use the less common one.

The reason it is better is you get a better seal to clean the tank out fully. It's also hands free so you also don't need to stand there the whole time, you can go do something else on the dock.

The one I used on my Hunter sailboat had the wrong TPI and would not work. I think I ordered and received the correct one but have not been able to verify due to high water. When I confirm I will report back. The selection process online was difficult.

I thought it was the same 1.875 but perhaps I got a different TPI by mistake. I said stripped, but that isn't right--the threads get banged up on insert so it doesn't go in straight. I meant why do you think the Nozal is better than the less expensive versions?

I was unaware of other versions or manufacturers, just stuck with what I had. What are the other clamp on versions/manufacturers?
