I assume the 20 amp. breaker marked Holding Tank on the DC panel is for the macerator. Anyone know if there is a fuse and where it might be? Sooner or later the Lake George Park commission patrol boat is going to stop me and tell me that a padlock on the holding tank/ macerator valve handle is not sufficient, and I will have to cut off power to the macerator.

I suspect you won't get away with just cutting power to the macerator. Here in GA we're required to remove the plumbing leading the outboard thru hull.

Nita and I got stopped by the Coast Guard for a boat inspection last year. Two of the inspection items were the macerator pump and the holding tank valve. They asked us to see the valve on the tank to make sure it was shot off. I told them that I had a guarded switch to protect from accidental discharge. After a discussion amongst themselves, they decided that the guarded switch was sufficient. I will continue to use that argument when ever the issue comes up.

Bob

Ah, another good argument to get an Airhead compost toilet. Believe me, I do not get a commision. I am just advocating it because I see all the heartache you conventional toilet guys ar having.

Hello Phil,

You are correct. The 20 amp breaker is for the macerator. There is no fuse only the breaker.

Thanks Kenny.

I have a plastic tie securing my discharge valve. That was good enough for the Coast Guard and the Maryland DNR Police.

Coast Guard enforces federal law and locking the valve is all that is needed for them. I had previously heard that a small lock or ty-rap on the small cover device over the 12V breaker was sufficient. Has anyone else had this experience? If used does it matter what position the valve is left in?

Of course some states or specific waterways have their own rules. Florida, Alabama & Tennessee appear to just use the federal requirements.
