Two maintenance topics, 2012 Ranger 29,
Anyone had any experience changing the brass shear pins in the side thrusters to stainless steel pins. Is it a good idea, any downside?
Blue Water toggle switch frailer on main panel. Ordering a replacement seems difficult, back ordered now for over two months. Anyone had a similar experience?

Many thanks,
Michael Baetz

I changed the shear pin on aft thruster to stainless and the fuses to circuit breaker. Also removed thruster battery and moved 1 house battery forward.

Better trim and better trusted.

I heard that Blue Water had a fire in their plant, but I have not verified that, and lots of folks are having trouble getting their products.

Changing out the brass shear pins for stainless steel seems to me to go against the very reason they are there; to act as the weak link in case of a jam up and prevent breakage of more expensive parts. Can others verify from experience that the breakers can be relied upon to ALWAYS trip first before damage occurs?

I have switched to stainless steel in my bow thruster. Sidepower does not sell the brass ones anymore.

Blue Water service is exceptional but they had a fire in the factory this winter. I am sure it is impacting inventories and production.

This is interesting. Have you received this information from Side Power. Brass shear pins are currently shown available on their website.

Thanks,
Gary
