We’re planning to head to Key West for a few days after the SWFl Rendezvous. Marco Island seems like a reasonable point to overnight before making the jump to Key West. Can anyone recommend a marina in the area?

We have tried every marina on Marco Island for a slip this Thursday the 20th, every single one is booked. We ended up finding one in Goodland not far from Marco island. We have been told the Rose marina is good if you can get in

Highly recommend Goodland. Nothing special but a clean old south marina. There is a great seafood market with-in walking distance and the Marco Island Famous Stans! It is actually in Goodland.

If you want to stop in Marco. There is a well protected anchorage Smokehouse Bay. It is surrounded by high end homes but a large anchorage. Provisions can be found if you have a dingy. There is a dingy dock that is at a grocery store. There is good information given using the Active captain app or the Garmin. We spent 2 days there during a blow last winter.

2 years ago on the way to the Rendezvous, we amchored in Smokehouse Bay. Dinghy to Winn Dixie. Easy in and out.

Thanks, all. We booked a slip in Safe Harbor Calusa Island (Goodland), although it looks like there’s some skinny water on the way in. Rose is full up on the date we’re passing through, and Esplanade no longer accepts transients.

Goodland is a good spot. On Sundays Stan's has a great gathering with lots of interesting people. Little Bar is a great restaurant. I am in Naples, if you are in Goodland and need a ride for groceries, if schedule permit, I will pick you up. Don't worry about the water level going to Goodland. Just keep in mind that after the Jolly bridge the markers change and the first red marker is missing since the hurricane. Watch your chartplotter and stay in the deeper water indicated on the chart. Stay in the channel and you will be fine. Also, do not mistake the shoaling signs for channel markers. It is a very nice ride among the mangroves after the Jolley bridge The current can be strong at Calusa. Going in and out of your slip can be tricky with the tide change, just prepare in advance and you will be fine.

Hope to see you at the SWFL Rendezvous Gordon...we finally got our 29 here in FM and plan on making it to that at Burnt Store marina early Feb.

We made it to Goodland. Went to Stan’s for a late lunch/ early dinner. That place is a hoot! No cell service from any carrier but the wifi works.

We plan to be at Sweetwater tomorrow afternoon to pull the boat out and head back to the west coast.

Are they loading the boat on the trailer for you? I don't think they have a ramp but there is a public one close by.

Yes that is the plan at this time.

We will be at SweetWater tomorrow afternoon meeting the Volvo technician so he can do the engine evaluation for the warranty etc.

Thanks again, all. See you at the Rendezvous. We’ll be at Goodland overnight on Feb. 7th, leaving the next day for Key West, weather permitting.

Thanks. We couldn’t get into any of the marinas at Marco so we continued on to Calusa Island in Goodland, south of Marco. We’re now sitting in Key West’s Galleon Resort Marina in the middle of a 40kt blow. Hope you’re in a sheltered spot. Looks like we’ll be here for the week.

Thats not a bad place to be stranded. Its 14 in my pole barn where my tug is sleeping right now. I few years ago I was stranded at the same marina. I was helping run a 68 Choy Lee from FL around to Ft Myers. Key West is a big drinking town and I don't drink. I did find plenty to do. I rented a moped for a few days. I cruised around and hit all the spots. I really liked the Mel Fisher museum. The sunset party was cool. I even rented a fish pole from a bait shop and caught a bunch of fish under some bridge the guy told me about. Kind of wish I was stranded there right now.
