Ahoy Factory Help,

I hope all is well with you today. I have recently purchased a 2010 Ranger 25 Classic. It has a MASE 2.5 K generator installed. When I run it, I smell exhaust fumes inside the cabin with the door closed. I am wondering if you have some helpful hints on how to trace an exhaust leak.

Hi Rob,

Not 100% sure but I believe that generator was mounted aft of the engine, at the transom. The best way to check is to open the engine hatch and see if you can find any exhaust leaks at the generator and the exhaust hose going overboard (port side, if memory serves) You can either run the generator and to the old fashioned sniff test, or you can check to see if you see any carbon/smoke traces at any point in the exhaust run (you might simultaneously see a saltwater trace if there is a leak further down in the wet section of the exhaust as well) Hope this helps get you started but let us know.

Cheers,

Ralf

Thanks, for your post.

Some one suggested a smoke generator. I bought one from Amazon and I attached it to the exhaust pipe.

Quickly, smoke started blowing out of the exhaust gasket by the cylinder head.

I ordered a new gasket from Mase in Fort Lauderdale.

I hope it works. I will let you know.

Thanks for caring enough to respond to my posting
