I've only had my tug for 2 weeks. It's a 2014. Generator with 29 hours. Has good exhaust flow but shuts down after 30 seconds ( no load on it) with low frequency error code. Changed fuel filter .. no help. Starts up easily then shuts down in 30 secs. Does not register any power production on @ ac panel. Frequency stays on zero the whole 30 seconds. Plenty of fuel and oil level perfect. Any ideas?

Hi Dave.
On the Mase, there is a electric fuel pump. I would check to make sure it is working. If the gen is running for 30 seconds and shuts down. It sounds like no fuel from the pump.

Thanks Ronnie

I had a diesel mechanic take a look. He couldn't hear the fuel pump ..but it was loud with rain at the time ! But since it starts right up after shutting down ands runs again for 5-30 seconds he thought it probably wasn't a fuel issue and instead an electrical . Waiting for authorized Mase mechanic to check it out as I should still have warrantee ... but might be some weeks for them to get to me . So I'm stuck at dock too hot to go out in FL without that genset!

We had a smilar issue last season. I believe that the code was an E-87 -- generator would start and run, but not produce any power. Turns our there is a know issue with MASE for the Capacitor. Replaced and everything worked great. Takes about 20 minutes (most of which is just removing the covers). The capacitor is located the front-right side of the generator.

here is what I ordered: (I ordered 3 of them at the time)

Good luck...

Hi,

Thanks for the advise. I called Sergio at Mase and he is sending me a new capacitor. My error code is E22 (low frequency), gen never reaching proper RPM's. Looking forward to a fix and getting out!

Hi Dave, I'm not sure replacing the capacitor will solve your problem. Our Mase had a low voltage issue too when the A/C was turned on. The generator was putting out 105 volts and the A/C needs a little more than that. The generator ran just fine but tripped the white breaker on the left front panel. Your problem sounds like low oil or a clogged fuel filter. I would also look for any kinked fuel lines too. Make sure the sea strainer is clean and it's pushing water out the side of the boat.
The capacitor is in the bottom left corner behind two panels. I found it easier to remove the wet exhaust to gain access, but be careful as it will be full of water. Please let us know how things work out.

Tim
Gratitude

Hi Tim

Sergio at Mase thought it might be the filter as well. Changed that out (but it was pristine), no help. No voltage reading at all. My new capacitor arrived last night so will see if that fixes me up.

Stay tuned! Thanks for the help everyone.

Dave

Hello,

Happy to report that the new capacitor did the trick! Had a great outing yesterday

Hi Dave,
I have had this problem on a previous boat. It was caused by a sagging fuel tank breather line, that had fuel stuck in the sag. The pump was not powerful enough to suck the fuel back into the tank, therfor starved the engine of fuel.It would start and run until the vacuum caused by the blocked breather pipe caused a vacuum in the tank.
Hope this helps, Andrew

2015 Ranger 27 with 2.7 masa.Failed. Dealer service found sensor for overheat faulty.Have friend who specializes in boat generator service and installation states that these gens are problematic. At $7500 option cost this is disappointing.Just one opinion.
