Hi, a few weeks ago I bought a used 2012 R-27 that was in very good condition and quite clean. During my look at the boat and also during the Survey, the generator started right up with no problem and ran for many minutes even with the AC running as well. Now with the boat in my possesion, when I try to start the genset I just get a whirrring noise from the Genset (water or fuel pump?). I tried the following: AC Selector switch on Shore Power, turn power ON at Mase control panel, wait for POST to complete and the display shows 130 hours, then press Start on Mase control panel - whirrrrrrrrr. Following the manual, I don't press Start for more than 5 seconds and no more than 3 times in a row. I waited a day and tried the same sequence but with the AC Selector switch on Generator. Same result. Does anyone have any ideas on what may be not happening? Thanks in advance. P.S. Other than that we love the vessel!

Sounds like you are trying to start it on shore power. It starts from the batteries, turn battery switches on then go through the start procedure. The A/C, Generator selector switch at the panel gives the panel power from either shore power or the generator. Make sure the seacock for the generator is open.
When the generator is running turn the selector switch at the panel to generator and it will power what you select on the panel.

Hi Brian, thanks for responding. The battery switches are all ON and I do get that whirrrring noise coming from the Genset hatch so something is getting power there. And the Genset Seacock is open. I'm baffled.

Maybe the genset starter motor is spinning but not engaging the engine flywheel. That might be a result of low battery voltage, which is the first thing I would check. Same result with the "parallel" switch on?

Hi CaptCrunch and thanks for replying. The Victron battery monitor shows 12.81V. That said, I will try it with the Parallel switch on and see if that makes a difference. GF

Call Serigo in Ft Lauderdale, Fl. He’s the expert his phone number is 954 937 5983. Or the Mase distributor also in Ft Lauderdale. 754 703 5153.

Is the fuel valve open?

Yup, Fuel valve is open. Thanks.

Just to be clear. Is the engine turning over or is the starter spinning and not engaging flywheel. If the engine is turning over and not starting check the butt connector going to the oil pressure switch. The connection may look good but still not be connected. Give the wires a slight tug , mine pulled out. New connector and everything is working.

Hi Just Right,

No the engine is not turning over. I just get the whirrrrr that sounds like the starter is turning but not engaging.

Thanks for replying! GF

just a heads up to everyone spoke to Mase a few weeks ago, Sergio retired so Joe it the guy to speak to.
My mase was having trouble shutting off. Found out it was the fuel solenoid on the fuel pump. What a fun time it is, not wanting to remove the pump to take the solenoid off. Had to make a few tools. The solenoid has a 13mm or 1/2" surface but heres where they make it tough. It is not a full nut, it was a round tube and they only flatted two sides of it. So you think you might sneak in a wrench and there is nothing to grab on to. So anyways replaced the solenoid and the generator now shuts off right away instead of 5 minutes later.
And btw he recommends that you replace the outboard fuel filter with a 2 micron filter as he said it will affect the solenoid since there is not a filter on the generator itself.
