Just purchased my first Cutwater, a C28
Hoping to celebrate on the water with some friends
What is the maximum number of persons I can have on the C28 ?

Absent a capacity plate, the Coast Guard formula is (Length X Beam)/15.

(28 X 8.5)/15 = 15.8

No way would I put 15 passengers on a C28, but that is a personal choice. Make sure you have a proper PFD for each person.

Capacity plates are only required on boats less than 26 feet in length. The formula noted should also only be used for smaller boats. There's a nice article below.

Go with what makes you comfortable and the nature of the cruise. If just a harbor cruise you may be able to accommodate on the higher side. If sitting in the slip it's however many will fit lol. As noted make sure you have an adequate number of PFD's and that they're readily accessible.

Capacity plates are required by federal law on boats 20 feet or less. Common sense should dictate, but a 28 foot pontoon boat (with seating everywhere) can carry more passengers than a 28 foot couple's cruising boat. It isn't just a matter of how many you can squeeze in, but how many you can take in safety and comfort.

Congratulations on the your new boat! I always tell everyone that I would not place more people than you can sit on the boat. We do have a capacity plate that is used for international boats and will check the specs when I return to the office on Monday. Enjoy!

On my C28, I go by the rule, 6 for drinks, 4 for dinner and sleeps 2 : )

same formula for me too.

although for drinks i have had 8 but it does get busy!. biggest issue is the beam.

We were anchored out and 30 of us converged on an R-31. The swim platform was awash. I doubt there were 30 life preservers on board, but I think with enough  alcohol you can float.
