Need to remove the Maze Genset in my RT27, 2013. Alice J you mentioned the procedure and of lifting it out with a chain block system. Did you do this yourself or have a repair shop do it? If it was a DIY project could you elaborate on the removal, and specifically what you used to lift the little bugger out of the lazarette??? The mounting brackets on mine have rusted away and the plywood floor is rotted, sooooooo the genset must be pulled. Am thinking I might build a temporary "A frame out of wood" that might work to lift it out but then what do I do with the thing?

I removed my Mase generator from my R25 myself. I rented a block and chain and found a very sturdy branch on a tree where I could pull the boat under and get very close to the tree trunk. After removing all the connections to the generator, I lifted it up with no problem. I then moved the boat out of the way and lowered the genset. Easy - peasy. I’m afraid an “A” frame may have to be too wide to accommodate the boat width. I looked at renting a lift of some sort, but I did not have a flat surface to roll the lift on. If you have a concrete driveway, you may consider that. I found one that was tall enough, but I don’t remember the particulars.

Hello,

I was able to find a local business that had a heavy duty truck and a boom crane mounted on the back. They used it for placing and picking up propane tanks. For a small fee they were willing to meet me at a dock I had my boat at and lift out the genset and place it on a trailer for me. Thought this might be another option for you if you could find a small business willing.

It's not that heavy. A couple of strong backs and some nylon straps can have it out of there in no time. If you can't find said strong backs most equipment rental outfits have boom trucks capable of handling this size load. Once out of the boat I moved mine around by myself several times with a simple hand dolly and a tie down strap to keep it on the base of the dolly.

I have a forklift that made is really easy. There is a lifting ring on the Mase Genset that I hook into. It does take at least two persons of safely remove the genset. Just make sure that all connections to the genset are removed, ie the electrical cables, fuel lines, control panel cables. Water and exhaust hoses removed and clear all touching areas of the genset.

Thanks all for your suggestions on removal of the genset. Sometimes I amaze myself on how I can "not" think out of the box. I'm so use to having, working, on my prior sail boat I just forget Scooter is on a trailer and duuu, a handy tree or even a shop, and a chain hoist/come-a-long makes for an easy removal job. No need to remove the thing while in the water! Thanks again for helping get me going in the right, easy, way. John
