Memory foam Mattress Topper

I have a question about the yachtbedding package for the C30. Obviously it's pricey. How/why is it easier to make the bed with their topper versus just buying sheets that fit the existing cushions?

I made my own sheets for our C-dory V berth but obviously this is a stranger shape.

I'm wondering if the additional weight of the topper also doesn't make it that much harder to get the storage open?

Thanks for your input!

I also have this question -- forward berth seems pretty comfy (more so than the v-berth on the sailboat I used to liveaboard), so wondering this too.

Yes, a King size topper will cover the R31 v-berth without extra pieces.

I know the R31 is a completely different berth layout, but for our R27, the king size fit, but just barely. The berth is slightly wider than the king mattress is log, and the berth is about the same length as the width of the king mattress. Sounds confusing, what I'm trying to say is that for the R27, the king mattress fits sideways before cutting into the V shape.

Not even sure how you would get a bottom sheet or pad tucked in around the edges against the hull. Topper is super easy as you pull it away and put it all on then slide it into place.

So we don't get our Cutwater 30S until September and even when we do we will be keeping it very far from home and making it impossible to make our own sheets from that distance. So, how to solve this problem without buying the full kit? I'm ordering just the topper and having it delivered here.. where I have a sewing machine and a nice big open floor to lay things out. I'll make a template for future use and also I still have king size bedding from our old hunter sailboat. I think I can fairly easily cut the sheets and the duvet cover to fit the topper... I may have trouble with the actual duvet insert. It's not the right taupe color but for a savings like this it's worth a shot (because we have no use for the old sailboat sheets and duvet anyway.

Question: are your topper fitted sheets surrounded by elastic all the way around? I may attempt a drawstring instead unless someone tells me that's a bad idea.

I know this is a compromise from my original plan to "go for the full kit" but what have I got to lose? I can always buy the custom sheets separately.

I laid on the bed in a sea trial of the sister ship and found the memory foam mattress very comfortable. It's ridiculous that we should need a topper just to make it easier to make the bed!
