V berth "bed" just not quite soft enough for two ole folks. Ideas??? Thoughts??? Thanks

You will need a king size memory foam mattress topper. We have a 3" and it is very comfortable. You can cut it to fit with an electric carving knife, cuts like butter. I kept it whole and flop it over when I need to get under the cushions, others have cut the cushion shapes out.

We also have a 3" memory foam pad in our R25 Classic. Very comfortable. Used a queen sized pad and glued the trim pieces from the tip of the "v" to the sides of the aft end to get full coverage.
Someone else suggested replacing the hard as rock material in the factory cushions with memory foam and then just using a thin memory foam mattress toppper.

The trick to have the foam pad cut to the correct size of the V-berth cushions. I removed the V-berth cushions. I then placed the pad on the dock surface and placed the cushions on the pad and marked the cushion outlines with a black pen. Allow the pad to air for a few minutes as it tends to want to expand when first unpacked. I added 2" all around to compensate for shrinkage when laying down on the foam. I found that the V-berth tip just could not be covered so made a separate piece for that. If the extra 2" was too much it can be trimmed off later to make a better fit.

Using an electric carving knife makes the cutting very easy.

The next task is to decide if you want to cut the pad into two sections to make it easier to get to the V-berth storage areas, or to simply flip/fold it over to one side or the other to access the storage areas. Now you have to figure out how to go about using a fitted sheet over the pad which is an odd V-like shape.

Good luck.

We used a memory foam topper from Wal-Mart. It was made of two different types of foam for a total of four inches thick. We cut the foam to match the individual cushions. The port and starboard and the center removable one. It made it easier to access the v berth storage areas. We had the memory foam covered with Sunbrella canvas with zippers so they could be removed for cleaning. We tucked in a queen sized comforter on the sides and slept on top of that with a second comforter to cover us. That worked for us.

We bought a Temperpedic topper from Bed Bath and Beyond. Wow. What a difference. Almost as good as our home! Good luck and sleep well!

we don't have any problems with the mattress that came with the boat 🙂
Both of us are in our late 60's and always have a very comfortable nights sleep when aboard
Cheers
