Metal “wrapper” of shower wand hose disintegrating after 2-3 years

Hello! We have a 2022 Ranger 29s and the articulating metal “wrapper” around the hose leading to the shower wand is falling apart. Underneath is a clear plastic/rubber hose. Has anyone experienced this? Seems like that ought to last more than 2-3 years. Does anyone know the best way to get a replacement part?

I’ve filled out the form at https://www.rangertugs.com/contact-us-parts-department/ And have emailed the email addy shown there and haven’t heard anything after a week or so.

Circling back in case anyone searches for this.

My experience trying to get the part via the Ranger Tugs parts department didn’t yield any useful response after a few tries (I think they are working with a new vendor for that?).

I tried picking up a standard shower hose from the hardware store that looked good. One side was a standard shower wand size (great!), but the other side was too large for the threaded water outlet on the wall in the head.

I dutifully measured the non-fitting outlet and hose end that weren’t matching and figured I needed a 0.5” to .75” female to male adapter. HA! After ordering several from Amazon and a conversation with ChatGPT, I learned that the wonderful work of hoses/adapters is truly insane. Are you talking BSP/BSPP (British Standard Taper!), GPT (National Pipe Taper!), or GHT (Garden Hose Thread!)?

Some tidbits from ChatGPT:
  • A 1/2” BSP male fitting has an outside diameter of about 0.825” (21mm).
  • A 1/2” NPT female fitting has an inside diameter of about 0.840” — close, but not a match in thread style.
  • A 3/4” hose connection in U.S. household plumbing is often GHT (garden hose thread) — which is even more different.
Truly sadistic. Anyhow, I ordered a Capco Shower Hose (for marine/RV applications):

Camco 43716 RV/Marine 60" Flexible Replacement Shower Head Hose (Chrome)

I will report back if this doesn’t work, but I hope that it will.

I think the shower head hose you selected will work. For future reference regarding any plumbing items on the boat, I recommend removing the the failed part and taking it to the local hardware store and asking a store employee to replace the part. If they have it they will usually find it or something close that will work. None of the plumbing in the boats is really anything special.

Unfortunately, in this case, it appears to be at least somewhat special.

Neither the shower hose on the shelf at the hardware store nor the Camco Replacement RV/Marine shower hose fits the threads on the wall in the head.

Sorry to hear that. Our shower hose had a similar failure and the hose from Home Depot worked perfectly. The newer stuff must be different.

I got a new reply from the folks that are handling parts for Ranger Tugs and they told me that my boat only had two hoses— one for the swimstep sprayer and one for the pull-out faucet. After insisting that I had a shower hose (and showing them a Ranger 29s photo of the shower with obvious shower hose) they sent me here: https://www.scandvik.com/index.cfm?method=products_detail&productID=43

That’s what I ordered from Defender Marine, so… fingers crossed. That would make it a 3/8” to 1/2” hose (with neither side measuring anywhere close to those numbers with calipers!). For anyone reading this with the same problem— beware adapters and tape measures for solving this. 🙂
