I know there are some out there ... Ok most out there smarter then me.. When I use my portable generator while on the road my AC volt meter on the boat only reads 1/2 the voltage... Everything on the boat works fine.. Does it have to do with the portable not grounded to the boat so only getting a reading from one leg of the 30 amp plug?
Thank you

The Honda generator is a different animal. It is actually an inverter being powered by 12 volts. You may also notice that the Reverse Polarity light is on when using it. The short explanation, the way I understand it, is that you are getting 110V, but it is 55 volts. Similar to a 220 circuit. You are getting 110 volts on each leg. if you measure only one leg to ground you will only be reading 110 volts.

Thanks kinda what I thought
