I am curious as to whether or not there would be any interest in a "mid winter" cruise to the San Juans. We would depart Seattle on the morning of the 26th of December returning on the 2nd of January. An itinerary has not yet been set other than going to the San Juans.

Please let me know if you are interested.

The San Juans are beautiful that time of year. Ida and I have gone out many times. The water can be mirror calm and the sky's clear, or not. We would love to go but we will be cruising around Kona on the Fairwinds and Cpt Beans over the New Years holiday. Hope you all have fun.

Still testing the waters. Would there be any interest in such a trip? Or, would you be more inclined to do the south sound?

How about the mid-Chesapeake Bay?

We are thinking this could be fun!

Interest on my part, Dave.

And the interest builds! We did the San Juans two years ago this same week. The weather for the most part was great. The waters were empty, and the marina's were cheap......

How many boats can we get?

David:

Let me discuss this with Gill to see if there's an interest. We typical have family over during this holiday time... but you have suggested this mid-winter cruise start on Boxing Day (day after Dec 25th)... so we/I could rename this day to "Boating Day" instead. 😉

As we won an auction for a 2-day Roche Harbor night stay which expires 12/31/2011 this would allow us to capitalize on this, unless of course we use the 2-days earlier this year. 🙂

Great ideas...

If there is some end of the things we do...will not knowledge of it, have a great influence on life? Shall we not, like archers who have a mark to aim at, be more likely to hit upon what we should? If so, we must try, in outline at least, to determine what it is. —Aristotle

It appears there are a few folks interested in a "Mid Winter Cruise" over the holidays. Currently Maureen and I are planning to cruise the San Juans between Christmas and New Years. While we will be "working" that week, we will be "working" from remote locations.

It would be great if other were to come along. The winter months in the San Juans are incredible with little traffic!

Let me know if you are interested.

David:

My 1st Mate said it sounds like fun. 🙂 So we are definitely interested in joining up with you for the Mid Winter Cruise. I've always like the idea of using our boat all year round, and this gives us an opportunity to do so.

We are still planning to cruise the San Juans starting on the 26th of December returning to Seattle on New Years Day.

The plan is to depart Stimsons Marina on the Ship Channel at 5:00 am on the 26th of December. We will go as far as Anacortes on the 26th.

27th: Matia Island
28th: Sucia Island
29th: Patos Island
30th: Stuart Island
31st: Either Friday Harbor or Rosario Resort on Lopez Island.
1st: Seattle

Of course, all depends on the weather!

Currently Gail and Patrick on "Thats It", Barry and Gil on "Laxey", and Johnie on "Red Ranger" have expressed an interest in joining us. Any others?

Thanks for posting that David...

Laxey plans on joining this get-together starting Dec 26th.

What Anacortes Marina do you plan on staying at for Dec 26th ? Bob and Nina are at at Skyline I believe, but Cape Sante would be easier for us as we're likely to come up through La Conner -- especially if weather is a bit nasty. Skyline would add another good hour to our trip I suppose.

Distance from Cape Sante and Skyline to Matia Island looks about the same to me.

We've had a slight change in plans for this cruise as Gill's cancer has returned and she will start another round of chemo this coming Thursday. So, given this chemo session will be lasting 12 weeks or so it's unclear if Gill will be up to a 6-day cruise. However, Gill's sister and husband (Pam & Mike) will be arriving from UK on Christmas day and the plan is for Mike to be with me as 1st mate, if he can stay awake after the long haul flight from UK. The plan will then be that Gill, Pam and Tanya (daughter #1) + husband Morgan and their 2 small children and maybe daughter #2 Vanessa + boyfriend Joe from San Francisco will join up with us at Rosario via car/ferry for New Year... BTW, isn't Rosario Resort on Orcas Island and not Lopez Island ? ...Tanya/Morgan were married at the Rosario Resort.... so I think I have that correct 😀

Hmmm, I won a Roche Harbor two-night moorage auction at the Bremerton Rendezvous so I'm wondering how I can make use of that... 😉

Now that all that has been said and planned for it now appears that my son Duncan + Nora his wife and two children will also be joining us at Rosario.... 😱

Then of course we have two Fox Terriers (Chloé & Jake) with the younger one Jake barely 7 months old...

Gill tells me one of the islands is quite bleak and has a grand population of 4 !!!!!! I suppose we would be on hook for some of these islands, right ?

No matter, it all sounds fun and my brother in law Mike is really looking forward to it all.

So it seems Mike and I will be on the boat for this cruise with the hope that Gill & Pam can make it also.

If all these people make it we would have including Mike and me, some 14 people of the Sharp clan at Rosario Resort.

...and yes, all this depends on the weather.

Barry and others,
We plan to overnight at Cap Sante Marina in Anacortes on Monday the 26th of December. This will allow us to finish our provisioning for our trip. Since we will be in San Diego the weekend before with our daughter, we will need to stock up on fresh food items on the 26th.

In most locations there are buoy's or docks available, thus eliminating the need to anchor. While there may be docks, there will more than likely be no electric available on these docks. That will not be an issue for Karma as she has a generator (and an extension cord if needed......).

Yes, some of these islands are remote per say. That is the plan. Get away from it all...... With Maureen and I both being in Retail Management, the holiday season is our busiest, this is the time to get away with friends and family and unwind. For the most part, the day after Christmas marks the end of the season and year.

We are looking forward to joining those of you that have decided to come along. We will celebrate the end of one great year and the beginning of yet another, in the best way we know how, out on the water.

David and Maureen

That's It also has a generator which we can share if needed.....we also like the idea of Cap Sante in Anacortes to provision (makes crossing the border so much easier). Hopefully we will have our Nexus cards by then (interview December 12) if not, we can clear at Anacortes....
We will have to clear at Sidney on the way home as Pender Island Customs is closed for the season.

Looking forward to it (almost more than Christmas!!)

You can clear northbound by cell phone alone with a Nexus card if they are in a good mood.

Did it.

I talked to them and Rosario both. Both said we would be fine without reservations.
