I contacted a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary yesterday and she and her husband, who were at a training class, would love to do an inspection of our boats at Fisherman's. Those that pass will get an early inspection sticker to place on their boat. She told me that they are looking at Ranger Tugs for a possible purchase and were excited to get my phone call. I also told her that all but the R-31 and the C-26 would be represented at this time(subject to change). They live in Ballard and it is an easy trip from their home.

Bringing this up to the front....so at least Air Head toilets will have some company. 😀

Bob and Nita are working real hard to have a great get together for us. Willie's Tug looks forward to being there.

Count the Salish Rover in if it's not to late.

Mini Cruise Update to Fisherman’s Terminal on Memorial Day Weekend

Below is an update as to schedule and events

Nita and I will be arriving at Fisherman’s Terminal Thursday May 24. If any of you would like to join us, please do so.

Moorage:
We have moorage available for 24 boat. The cost at Fisherman’s is $0.80 a foot. There is an additional $3 for electrical per night. When you arrive I will provide you with a $10 coupon that you may use for one night. I have only 30 coupons available.

If you would like to spend a night at Shilshole before or after the mini cruise at Fisherman’s, please let me know and I will send you a $10 coupon (coupons are limited).

Schedule:
We have planned for the BBQ and get together to be on Saturday. We will provide hotdogs, hamburgers, vegi burgers plus buns and all of the condiments. Please bring one of the following to complement the menu: appetizer, salad, dessert, or anything else you want to bring. Also, please bring your own silverware, plates, and napkins.

Since we cannot cook on the dock, we will need additional boats to help with the cooking.

Fisherman’s Terminal does not allow alcohol in a noticeable container on the dock so paper cups, coffee mugs will be needed. This has been approved by the Marina management.

Kings Canvas said they will try to attend, they hope their schedule will fit.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary have been invited to attend, please let me know if you would like a boat inspection which will entitle you to a certificate for 2012.

Map:
Nita and I will provide you with a map of Lake Union and Lake Washington. We have listed on a separate piece of paper some of the highlights you will see when exploring both lakes. This you can do at your leisure over the holiday weekend. Example: Sleepless in Seattle houseboat, Bill Gates home on Lake Washington, Husky Stadium, etc.

Just wanted to give an update to the plans for the Mini-Cruise. Nita and I will be leaving for vacation on Friday the 27th and returning on May 6th to Anacortes so if you could let us know your plans before we leave, it would be appreciated.

David and Maureen Baker have generously offered to supply dinner for Sunday night; we are fortunate to have such good friends.

Three people have responded to our request for what nights they will be staying at Fishermans Terminal. We are planning on staying from Thursday night til Monday. Please let me know your plans so that I can inform the Marina.

Two people have asked for the Coast Guard Auxiliary to inspect their boats and receive the certificate. If you would like the inspection let me know as soon as possible. Nita and I already have our 2012 sticker.

Bob

Hi Bob & Nita,
Kate & I will arrive on Friday and leave Monday too. Looking forward to seeing you both!

Bob & Nita

We would arrive at Fisherman Terminal Friday May 25 and stay through to Monday morning when we would leave for our Home Port of Edmonds.

I'm still somewhat apprehensive about traversing the Ballard Locks as son-in-law tells me it's no fun with everyone jostling about and the `big' boats being real nervous about being bumped etc... plus I need to find a couple of 50 footers and they are expensive at around $80 a pop. 😱 ...and I may have to handle/navigate boat on my own as 1st Mate's balance is a bit off... no matter I'll figure it out one way or another. 🙂

Barry,
I will be available and so will David to help you thru the locks and I will let you use our 2 - 50 ft lines. Chances are you will tie up to someone or use the small locks. The locks are really a good experience so don't worry about it. You will have a lot of help from the large lock staff that will be there. Nita is driving our car down so she can drop me or David at Shilshole to meet you.
Our phone number is (360) 293-0003 or my cell (206) 932-2450. Looking forward to seeing you and Gill and would you like a boat inspection by the Coast Guard Auxilary?
Bob

I forgot to mention my offer of help is good to anyone who needs or would like it. When you get to Shilshole wait and call me on (206) 932-2450, I might be very busy.
Bob

I too am willing to assist/train anyone else that needs assistance/training coming through the locks. Call Bob's cell as it will be the "Lock Assistance Hot Line". Nita will schedule your appointment...... Just kidding! Call Bob and either he or I will meet you at Shilshole.

David

Hi Bob,

Currently I am planning on staying overnight Friday through Sunday, but depending on some work being done by King Canvas may come in a day early or leave a day late, and won't know for awhile. I will make arrangements on my own for that, so don't worry, please.

I am so looking forward to seeing how others have set up their boats and hoping to figure out what might be useful on the 25SC.

I have not been through the locks on my boat, but do have the lines, and I may be asking for someone to talk me through the locks. I will do the reading and should be able to do it, although having another person on board could be reassuring.

I may take two days to come down also. I spent 6 hours getting to Anacortes from Everett and found that to be a very long time on board. I am still trying to figure out how fast I want to cruise, and for how long. It is a big adjustment coming from my little "go fast" C-Dory 🙂 By then I hope to have a better sense of how to factor money for gas vs. time aboard, and having that in my knowledge bank should help me make good decisions based on arrival time goals and circumstances!

Thanks Bob... very kind of you... Forgive me, but what exactly does "When you get to Shilshole wait..." mean ? I know Shilshole is a very large Marina (was there some 20 years ago to meet a buddy) and maybe it means to dock at their guest slip or maybe just hover around somewhere waiting for your communications to know how to proceed etc.

Loaning your 2x 50' lines is very kind and thoughtful.

I thought the small lock is under repair or something like that and we have to use the large lock -- hence the need for the 50' lines.

[Edit]

Yes... include me for a 2012 USCG Inspection although I might have this done at Edmonds as a boater/owner near my Edmonds slip belongs to the USCG Auxiliary and can perform the same inspection for me... and that reminds me to obtain new flares and rummage around to figure out where I stashed my First Aid Kit onboard... 😉 ... BTW... I was unaware the inspection was an annual activity. 😱 and that if boarded by the USCG and found lacking they ticket you with a stiff fine...

No, Barry, the USCG will not hit you with a stiff fine. In fact, they'll inspect your boat, and if you pass, they'll give you a certificate of inspection. And if they have one, they'll give you the sticker.

Bruce: I'm referring to being boarded when on the open waters and not the actual inspection. At least this what I've been told by my local USCG auxiliary person.

Barry,
I CGAuxilary inspection is to make sure you are prepared for the year of cruising and issue the sticker stating you have been inspected. It does not guarantee that you will not be boarded but assure that you have all the ducks in a row if it happens. Many times the Coast Guard will board as a training exercise for new recruits. When you replace your flairs you do not necessarily need all of them, we replaced only our gun flairs to pass and I was told this is acceptable.
As far as Shilshole is concerned, I will talk to Ray at Fisherman's and ask him to check where we might meet up at shilshole, I think you can temporarily tie by the gas dock depending on how busy they are, but I will let you know.
Bob

Barry,
I talked to Shilshole and this is the latest: don't tie up at the fuel dock, their fee is the same as short term moorage ($0.25 a foot). We can meet at the launching ramp if you call me about 30 minutes before you arrive. I will call Ray's boat house and ask them if we can use their dock for a meeting place for those coming from the South. I will give an update after I talk with them.
Bob
