Thought I would resurrect a post regarding the cleaning / replacement of a mixing elbow (in our case on a Volvo Penta D1-30). I spend considerable time trolling (20 lb Spring yesterday - yay) and while I try to be mindful of running the boat hard after a trolling session, I want to add yearly inspection/maintenance of the mixing elbow to my ‘list.’ While I rinse the engine with fresh water and use salt away in the rinse before storage, I would feel better knowing the mixing elbow is clean each season.
I just went through the VP owner’s manual and I didn’t see anything about mixing elbow maintenance. Does anyone have a VP engine manual that covers this? If so can you direct me to where I can purchase one or where I can find the information?
I get the impression that mixing elbows are basically ‘wear items’ that need to be checked and replaced every 3-5 years - but flushing with water / salt away should help somewhat ???
Thanks gang.
