Folks,

Maybe a long shot, but I am wondering if any of you know a good boat mechanic in the general area around Annapolis, MD that will come to your dock to work on a boat engine? I've tried the Craigslist route for such folks with little success in finding a reliable person. Our R23 is kept on a lift at our house. We do not have a trailer or launch area to pull the boat out of the water. The dealer we purchased it from is a little too far away to take the boat to, and while they will come to the house, they won't work on the lower unit while the boat's on a lift. So, I just thought I'd check here. Thanks.

Have you tried Seven Seas Yacht Services or Pocket Yacht?

Thanks. I have not tried Seven Seas. Will look them up. Pocket Yacht is the dealer I purchased from, but they won't do the lower unit work at the dock.

If all else fails does your dealer have the ability to tow the vehicle fro a ramp near you? If you have Boat US your insurance should pay for a boat tow to the ramp.

Tim,

You may not want to have someone work on your engine while either in a slip or on a lift.

I was at Lankford Bay Marina in August and 2 slips down from me was a boat with 2 Yamaha 250HP outboards. A Yamaha mechanic was working on one of the engines. I stopped by and talked with him for a while and asked him how he liked the Yamaha's engines. He indicated the reliability was great, but they do require regular maintenance. He also said do to their compactness they require a considerable amount of disassembly to get at maintenance items and to solve problems. He was having trouble removing some parts do to frozen fasteners. Apparently a previously mechanic had tried to solve the same problem he was sent to fix and in disassembly had dropped some of the fasteners in the water and replaced them with hardware store quality fasteners. He was willing to try and fix the problem with the boat in the water however the time required to work in that configuration was greatly increased.

This is just one comment from one Yamaha mechanic, others may see things differently.

Good luck!

Thanks you all very much for the replies. I really appreciate it!

Tim
