With the Weaver davit system, the upper tube has the most exposure. Specifically, the rub rail is starting to get a little gummy in spite of my regular applications of Aerospace 303 protectant. I commissioned my tugmate to make a modified chap to protect the upper rub rail. I think this will work just fine. Slips on around the end of the tube and then attached with small shock cord. There aren't many places to secure the chaps on the underside of the dinghy but I think it will be okay. I don't expect to keep this on when underway, mainly when docked. Although I will see if it can withstand winds when underway. A full blown set of chaps is a little impractical considering the orientation of the dingy when mounted on its side. I used some left over sun shade material but you could just as easily use sunbrella.
