Mooring hook accessories - your choice?

What's your favorite accessory for catching and/or passing line through mooring buoy rings? They look a long way down from the bow of our new R29 and we're looking for the best way to expeditiously secure to the ring.

We'd prefer not to grab the buoy from the cockpit, and have to walk the line forward.

Check out the Grab N Go hook by Johnson Marine.
We use it all the time for hooking up a tow line for our Coast Guard Auxiliary patrol boat.
Easy disconnect when needed as well.
Expensive but worth it.
We purchased from West Marine.

Hi Bruce: Lisa and I hope you're enjoying your new R29 as much as we are our R27. As far as picking up mooring ball lines, we've always used a boat hook that has the ability to be extended a great length. We did this on our 40' trawler with a high bow without any problem so it seems really easy for us on our R27. Please let us know if your plans bring you to Michigan and our area, we've always got room for our boating friends.

From the cockpit is not a problem. Willie takes the end of the bowline which is always tied at the side of the cockpit and runs it through the eye on the mooring ball. Then I shut the engine and walk it to the bow and snug us off. Piece of cake.

We also run the bow line back to the cockpit and tie it off. One of us snags the buoy ring with the boat hook. Then we run the line through the ring and walk it to the bow and snug it off.
