Mooring on the Ranger

Just picked up Epiphany this past weekend in Mystic and brought her home to Providence. Lots of questions I'll get to, but curious with only a single cleat on the bow, how you guys hook-up to a mooring with double pendants? Advice (and pictures!) appreciated...

We do a far amount of mooring on our Ranger 29, Andiamo. If you mean by a double pendant, that there are two mooring lines coming from the buoy, run each through the deck chocks on each side of the bow and cleat the lines over the top of each other. I have also tied both lines together with a square knot after running one of the lines through the middle of the cleat.

We mainly use our own mooring bridle with a large stainless snap hook instead of using someone else's lines. The mooring bridle has two other purposes: add a chain hook and it becomes an anchoring snubber line and put in on the stern cleats and it becomes a towing bridle.

We are on a mooring all season. On our 2010 R25 Classic, we run both through the bow chocks and onto the central cleat behind the windlass. I spliced a small gauge line onto the center of the cleat which I use to put a running hitch "binding" the two eyes of the mooring pennants together and to the cleat. Be sure to seize the mooring pennants together at about 2' intervals to minimize twist. The last seizing should be within 2-3' max of the stem to avoid wrapping a loose pennant around the mooring ball during slack tide/wind conditions. I can send you pictures once I get out to her this weekend.

The bow chocks are oriented for docking and are not ideally situated for mooring (there's a 90 degree bend to get to the central cleat). I've considered adding bow chocks or even cleats further forward, but it is nearly impossible to access the rail near the first railing stanchion where I'd like to put them due to the anchor box. I'm still exploring the other possibilities for chock locations, but haven't come up with an ideal solution yet.
