Andrew has just stated on another thread that the bow chalks shouldnt be used for mooring lines and I'm unsure of his meaning. My 21 will live on a mooring and I have just made up a mooring line with a chafe protected yoke that I thought could go port and starboard through the chalks to the deck cleat (would be better if there were two). The towing ring, I know from other boats, is generally not rated for side loading. Can the factory please clarify?

We install the chalks in an orientation that the lines are intended to run aft, not forward. I suggest you make sure that if you are using the chalks that they won't chafe the lines when running forward. Peter at Winter Island in Salem, MA typically installs a different set to protect from this.

Aren't there any chalks available that would work both ways and would it not make sense to install those as standard going forward in production? Couldn't imagine they are horribly more expensive compared to one directional ones.

Are we talking chalks ? Or chocks?

Maybe chalks are chocks with a southern accent?
