Good morning everyone,
First, I'm happy to say that we signed the purchase and sale agreement this weekend during demo days at WIYY, and will soon be the proud owners of a 2010 R25. We'll be mooring her in Salem, MA sometime in June. I'll be building the pendants myself to save some $, as I just can't see spending $150 for a total of 2 eye thimbles, 1 pear ring, and 2 lengths of line with 4 eye splices. Could anyone tell me the length of mooring pendants they use, or have used when cruising? Also, since I'm making them myself, I'd need to know the interior eye diameter for the splice. Of course, when I measured the boat this weekend, I measured the distance from the post of the cleat to the chock and vertical distance to the water to figure the scope of the pendant, but not from the post of the cleat to the tip of the cleat. Also, advice on chaffing gear for the mooring would be nice.

Thanks in advance for your help!
Doug

Doug,
Congrats on your boat purchase. Peter from WInter Island is a stand up guy and I loved dealing with him. Can't help you with your pendant question, but perhaps Peter can.

Come to think of it, I'd like to know the details, also. 😀

Hi Doug,
Congrats on the boat. We met during the sea trials last week. Deidre and I will be buying the R21 from Peter at WIYY. We'll be slipping it at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard but maybe we'll see you on the water at some point. Good luck to you and your family.

Best regards,
Patrick

I purchased a mooring pendant from https://dbropes.com/ . They are hand made to order and very reasonably priced. Outstanding quality and customer service. I highly recommend. I use mine on a mooring ball and while anchored with a Mantus Snubber Pendant and Mantus Mooring Snap Shackle.

Congrats on your new boat. We have Oh Well!! in Manchester By the Sea harbor. A Ranger Tug 27 OB.

Our mooring service is Manchester Mooring Service. Tom Baker knows his trade. In MBTS a few years ago a few boats broke loose from their moorings and bounced around, thus MBTS requirements are now that a mooring service provider needs to sign off that tackle and block are in good condition. I know Tom services Beverly but not sure about Salem. His email is manchestermooring@yahoo.com

Might want to check with Salem Harbor Master and Tom before you DIY. Consider potential liability problems. I think Salem harbor is not as protected as MBTS but don't know what their regulations may be.

Boating is always and adventure. But also a joy.

Cheers
