Hi Fellow Tugnuts! We are moving from Olympia to Bellingham and would welcome some input from any of you up there. Firstly, can anyone recommend a good Yamaha Certified mechanic? We have an R23 with outboards and they will need servicing. Also, any thoughts/information you can share about the marina in Blaine? We will have to go there first until a slip opens in the Bellingham marina.

We are moving Jan. 3 but won't bring the boat up until around Feb. or March...weather dependent! Hope to meet some fellow tuggers in our new home!

If you were to move to Alaska the covered moorage up there is approx $450 for the whole year. 😱

Olygirl - welcome to Bellingham! I keep my 23 on a trailer here in covered storage. The waiting list at Squalicum is extremely long - 5 years last time I called. Blaine has two marinas - one by the Port and the other Semiahmoo. For heading into BC, Blaine is a good place to start but you do have a lot of open water. Access to the San Juan’s - I believe, is better out of Bellingham (or Anacortes).

I just had my 20-hour service at West Coast Marine by Squalicum Harbor. Nice place. I did have a house battery stolen out of the yard, which is shared by a lot of marine businesses. I am going to get locking latches for my storage lockers based on that experience. Not sure if there is someone in Blaine for service.

Send me a message if you have other questions about this area.

Cathy and I (Ron) live in the Blaine area and we moor our 26’ Ranger sailboat there in the summer. We also have an R-23 “Lady Grey”.
It’s a Wonderful marina run by very nice people. With all taxes and fees, it was about $235 a month for the sailboat.Blaine is a great place to head north, south, or west from. There are islands in all three directions. See you this spring, or sooner.

La Conner or anacortes could work for a marina in the short term. Ask the Bellingham yacht guys for service. They sell rangers and cutwaters.
