Cutwater 28
Vessel Name
Katy A
I purchased the Katy A at this years Chicago boat show.
Now the time is fast approaching when I can take possession .
I'm quite excited. Today I received pictures of the custom Bimini that was installed on her.
Nothing special , just navy blue instead of tan

Congratulations and enjoy!

Congratulations on your new 28. You've got a lot of quality cruising ahead of you.

There are two ways you can post pictures. One works when you have a photo album on this site. The other works when you have someplace else on the web to host images. In each case you use the appropriate tag to add the image. Here's an explanation.

If you'd like to start an album on Tugnuts, here's how you get started.

Getting a User Photo Album for your Ranger Tug is easy but it requires submitting a request from within the site structure.

1. Sign on to the site, if you aren't already.

2. Select the User Control Panel link from the upper left corner of any page. Note: On the home page, this link is in your user menu.

3. Click the Usergroups tab, then select the radio button next to the User Albums group.
Scroll down, choose "Join selected" in the drop-down menu, and click the Submit button.

Once you do this, an email is automatically sent to the administrator (me). That message will trigger my ability to approve your request, and you'll receive an email indicating your membership in the User Albums group has been activated.

I'll watch for the message, and look forward to seeing your pictures.

Cheers,

Bruce

Will do. Thank you

Congratulations on your new 28. I saw this boat at the Charleston Boat Show and was given a thorough walk thru by
Mark Mansfield , I believe he is the National Sales Mgr. i am very impressed with the boat and am contemplating trying to
purchase a 26 or a 28. (Kids in college and its my retirement boat and Ive got 10 years to go). Here is my question: can
This boat do the Bahamas? Do you need a special permit to trailer the 28? I envision my wife and I doing the Loop and cruising the ICW as we are located in SC. It really looks like a great boat.

I am a Great Lakes cruiser
So others are better qualified to answer your Bahamas questions.
The 28 beam is 8ft 6 and trailerable with out permits
Just buy it. Tomorrow is not promised

Bimini looks great! Nicely done.
Congrats on the new boat! We get our new one a week from TODAY!

There are many boats in the range of the Cutwater 26 and Cutwater 28 in the Bahamas - there is a Ranger rendezvous in the Bahamas most years.

Careful weather watch, reasonable safety equipment, float plan, and a buddy boat to cross with probably make the section of the ICW near Lake Worthy Inlet the most dangerous part of the trips because there are so many drunk drivers in their boats.

Watch the weather and don't leave on Friday afternoon. 🙂

Psyched that I found this forum! Just took delivery of a new Cutwater 28...

Last Sunday I took her out for her first fishing trip and it was a great success -- first fish boated was a monster California Yellowtail..

Even Ernest Hemingway himself could not have scripted a more perfect adventure than what happened today on my first offshore fishing expedition on the new boat. We left Santa Barbara harbor at 7:00am in pea-soup fog conditions, guided only by GPS and radar. The long 30-mile run to the fishing grounds was greeted by eager anticipation... By 9:30 we arrived at the East End of Santa Cruz Island and soon we were yoyoing jigs a couple of miles outside of Yellow Banks. Fishing like this can get a little boring after 20 or so casts, and it did not seem like any other boats in the fleet were hooking up, so Kari and I decided to take a look a little further outside as there was really no signs of life where everyone else was fishing. Ten minutes or so later we found an area that looked very fishy. Seagulls and Pelicans were dive-bombing on a bait-ball, and as we approached, all of a sudden I saw a big boil in the water. Immediately I could tell what it was. "Yellowtail! I hollered, and I ran up to the bow of the boat with my casting rod in hand. On probably my 5th cast & retrieve, the line tightened, and I immediately knew I was bit, and damn, the line started just ripping off of my reel. I was fishing with a very short and stout vintage "Trueline" rod from the 1960's with 40 pound mono, and the fish pulled so freaking hard, I just knew that I tied into a nice fish. This was the first big fish that I had hooked since 2003, and the first since my two back surgeries in 2011. All I can say is that this fish really "put the hurt" on me..

I look forward to becoming a part of the Cutwater/Ranger Tug community..

kick ass!

I spent a few hours in Bass pro shop this weekend getting some kit for this novice fisherman to attempt the PNW salmon season.

If anyone has tips or recommended books/online to read please send them over as I really dont know what I am doing!!

Great fish and great story to go with it! Welcome to Tugnuts. Some very sound advice and shared experiences herein.

I will post a pic of my trophy Striper from the Chesapeake Bay as soon as I catch it.

Sounds great! Now, if I could just manage to get my Garmin fishfinder to work.. 😉

Thanks for posting the pictures . What do you do with a fish like that ? Can you sell it like wicked tuna ?

That's a nice piece of Hamachi. I am guessing around 28lbs? A good sized fish for your area. It is nice to see another fish addict in the ranks. The fish does not have the pronounced tail "saw tooth fins" on top and bottom I am used to seeing. Is this a yellow tail (southern hemi called Kingfish) sub species?

Congrats on the new Cutwater 28 . We took delivery of our 26 Cutwater last weekend in Racine Wis.. Our purchase was also thru Reed yacht sales . The delivery was flawless , Mark and Brent are great to deal with . The boat handled Lake Michigan above and beyond our expectations . I hope your experience with your delivery was as good as ours .

Yes I purchased with Reed. Brent worked and stretched to get my deal done . I sea trailed last Thursday hoping to cross from grand haven to Chicago on Friday , however if you recall the weather was not suitable . My salesmen Bob arranged for a slip and I waited until Saturday for a perfect first trip .

How did the Cutwater handle the lake ? We also took delivery on Friday in Racine NE wind waves 4 to 6 . We didn't head out , just stayed in the harbor , practice docking , started getting familiar with the boats systems , practiced putting the boat on the trailer . We are keeping it on the trailer this summer and just slipping it on the weekends . I want to paint the bottom myself so that is next winters project, Epoxy/Pettit Vivid .
I am interested in your trip across , time to cross , wave conditions , fuel consumption , speed, and how did it handle . When we went out Saturday waves were running 1 to 2 with a occasional 3 . The 26 handled well , very wet running off the step 7 to 8 Kn. I found that at 3150rpm 12kn full tabs there was occasionally some spay on the windshield bow was high descent ride . I kicked it up 3820 17kn on the step ,in the 2 and 3's , the hull started hitting a bit hard . Full throttle 4150 21kn the hull hit hard a few times and I reduced speed . I'm sure the two extra feet and extra weight will give you different ride . I'm just curious ! Over all I was impressed with the boat . We are planning a trip from Racine to Saugatuck Mi ,then cruise south end of the lake to Chicago and back up to Racine a week in in June .
