Subject: My R29 CB delivered on time

Yesterday Ivan delivered my R29 CB in its glorious Hero Red coat. All went well even though the marina took much time lifting the boat off the trailer bunks to secure the slings. I think one of the hands must have been a trainee. 😉 No matter, it was eventually lowered to the water and Ivan and I moved it to its new home slip.

I had a slight friendly argument with the marina's operation manager who had raced out to the Travel Lift with his fancy measuring tape to measure the length of my R29 CB and claimed 33'-6" and I argued for 33'-4". We laughed but I won. 😀 I think he was trying to extract a few extra dollars for the slip....

Spent the whole day with Ivan going over all the various device operating techniques. Accessing the Webasto and fresh water filters was a dream. There's a pull-up panel in the isle floor immediately inside cabin door. This exposed both filters. Opening up the fresh water filter we cleaned out some fibre glass shavings with ease. Running the sink water I heard no pipe thumping or pulsing -- very welcomed. We had a slight issue with obtaining hot water and it was discovered the water heater's overload switch had tripped and was considered to have been caused by having the temperature setting knob being set to its Max position. Ivan adjusted this knob and reset the overload switch and we were in business. 😀 Access to the water heater was easy as at far end of the cave there's a pull-out panel that exposed the complete water heater unit. I'm glad Ivan did the cave Spelunking because for me I think I would have had to call 911 for help getting back out.

I simply love how RT labels every single piece of wire clearly.

We spent considerable time going over the use of the dual purpose Inverter device for proving battery charging and for proving 110v to the internal boats 110v outlets. I'm sure I'll be using my notes for the first times using the Inverter.

The Webasto heater's controls were a nice surprise compared to my R27/OB; press power button, select fan speed and then select heat temperature - and all done. However, it does not have the flashing lights for the 30 day maintenance check which was very nice to have on the R27/OB. No matter, will setup my online-Calendar for doing this on the new R29 CB.

The special storage trays under the galley cabinet floors are very very welcomed for stowing things rarely used. This is a nice feature RT has designed in.

Ivan told me to always have the trim tabs in the up position before opening the engine hatch as the piston assisted hatch opening requires hydraulic fluid and if trim tabs not fully up there's insufficient hydraulic fluid that may cause the engine hatch to only partially open. 😱 Tip well taken by me.

It will take me a bit of time to get used to the Volvo eKey operation for starting the engine.

We checked all the 110v outlets and the cig lighter outlets and all were functioning. 😀

I wish the toilet seat was a slow-closing seat.... the R27/OB's seat was slow closing.... not sure how I will fix this aspect as the grandkids have a tendency to slam the seat down with a Big Bang. 😉

Here's a shared photo album of the delivery event.

Glad to see you have your new boat in the water. How long before you get twelve-ft-itis and take a 41 for a sea trial??? 🙂

Hi Baz
Congratulations
Good to hear the factory is still living up to expectations.. I enjoy your reviews and am looking forward to the 41 review when it comes 🙂

Best

Hey guys... give me a break on the 41.... mind you if you want to get in-line after the 17 41’s on order at this time be my guest. :x

😀

congrats Barry. really sounds like there is some new thinking/design on this new model. all these little learnings over the years continue to make it a better boating experience.

is it a new pump design or is there an accumulator for the fresh water now?

Hi Barry,
Nice to see the big day arrived on schedule. Congratulations!
Just about a year ago I got my R29....I had to Text Message Ivan about the Water Heater on AC. He "talked" me through resetting that little breaker and the temp adjustment, too!!

I hope you love your boat as much as we love ours.

I hope to see you on the water soon.

I quizzed Ivan as to what changes RT has made for the fresh water pump and he told me that the pump is now placed of some vibration resistant material and rather than using PEX piping for the first few feet of run from the pump they have switched to using clear reinforced tubing. The result means less thumping and less pulsing on my boat. Using all the faucets I heard no thumping at all but there was a small amount of pulsing at the head sink and transom shower but far less than what I experienced on my R27/OB. I don't believe the actual fresh water pump has been changed, but I really dunno for sure. No matter, I'm very happy to no longer have the PEX pipe thumping/hammering/banging sounds.

As an aside, with the Webasto running the exhaust noise at the outside hull exhaust port is now very very soft and totally unlike the super sonic wind tunnel noise I had on my R27/OB. 😀 I suspect the reason for this Webasto exhaust noise being less objectionable is associated with the Webasto heater unit on my R29 CB being much larger and more powerful, or that the exhaust piping has somehow been redesigned to create less noise. No matter, it's much improved.

Interesting design change on the water pump. I'll have to look at incorporating that into mine. Mine isn't bad so I suspect this would be enough.

Barry,

We came by Edmonds on our way to Everett yesterday. Your AIS is working!

Brett & Jasa: THANKS... 😀

That is very reassuring. I purposely entered my boat's name in capitals so it would be more easily seen on the plotters with a crowded display of boats. It certainly has achieved that. 😀

What is the large area colored blue that circles the northern section of the Port of Edmonds... is it the Ferry terminal area or the scuba diver's marine training area ?
