She always seems to surprise me - shower now is starting to drain a little slower - wise to clean out the sump me thinks.

Well, access looks very painful. Manual is not helpful - hot water line is in the way and very rigid….Lordy….

Might have to disassemble that pex T to get at it. They are difficult to get at on just about all these boats. My hands were covered in cuts and scrapes by the time I was done replacing my shower sump on my c30.

Just lovely

Pex, I thought once assembled that was it.

So does that little cookie pan have to be removed (remove top) or can the hose to it be remove to access the filter?

Top needs to be removed. On mine there were 4 square head screws. I upgraded mine to the new gen box when I did it since my float was failing.

Update?

Now what? So to be clear, and by the grace of all the sea saints the pex does not need to be removed - once the hose is removed, the cookie pan is free. Float? I don’t see any electrical lead?

You might have a different box. My shower sump has a pump and a float switch inside the box. I opted to replace the entire box and reconnected the tubing / wires.

Digging deeper

Looking more closely , big line is drain to pan an small line is discharge overboard. Tugging (no pun) on larger line - no movement is detected in pan - fixed - yet the is no visual to show how pan is fixed.

Does pan really have to be removed ? Can the clean out be done with just the top
Pan removed?

Sounds you had to remove the pan - my god how did you pull that off??!!

Yes you can clean the filter without removing the box. It’s usually a clear mesh plastic basket that needs a little finagling to remove. Rinse it, and put it back.

There are four screws holding it down around the base, two per side. Very tiny ratchet and lots of cuts on my hands.

Blood will be spilled then - onward

Onward to failure

Try as I may, it is impossible to remove the ALL the lower for screws short of cutting into the glass to create a access hatch - pex is blocking and just no room for my fat hands - those that have done this I have a new respect for.

Thanks so much!! The iCloud links did not work

I ended up filling up the entire head floor with about 3-4 inches of water with high volume water hose - pump flowed well - I sis manage to remove 2 of the stews to open the pan - it did not look bad at all - I lucked out I think

Now you have been through all this drama and pain, can I suggest adding an occasional cup or two of liquid plumber down the drain from time to time? It keeps the system nice and clean.

Thanks

I been been having a cup or two of the same thing to keep me clear!!

Looks like iCloud doesn't maintain the links for very long. Try these new ones:

Don't fully remove the rear screw on the float switch to remove it:

Float switch removed / disassembled for cleaning:

No wires were disconnected to complete the cleaning:

Also at least twice a season (mid and end before haul out) I pour just enough white vinegar into the shower drain and let it sit in the sump for a while and then flush it out with water to help keep things clean.

My experience with any chemical pipe cleaner that I've used is that they destroy things you mightnot want them to. In liquid Plumber's case rubber is one of the items on its 'do not use on list'. If the use of chemical pipe cleaners fails to work, now you or the tech has to deal with the left-over chemicals, splashes, mixing with other chemicals/removers, etc.

I have used this http://bio-clean.com/bioclean for years and find it quite effective. I have had many good results using a quart of warm water to a tablespoon of the mix.

Let me know if you have questions.

Along with what you cite, my thoughts about using drain cleaner in the shower sump is that the acid solution will be expelled out a thru hull and run down the side of the boat. That can’t be good for the finish of the hull and, if the boat is on the trailer when this it is done, it would also harm the bottom paint.

I think I’m lucky in that I’m not clogged YET, I’m going to get one of those little strainers to get all the girl shed from going into the little sump
