Subject: My windshield wiper flew off with a lot of fuss
Was out yesterday and fighting a strong head wind that was causing a lot of spray over the boat and the windshield. Consequently I had all three wiper going most of the time. All of a sudden, the starboard side wiper appeared to have disintegrated and was flapping all over the place and making tons of metal-on-metal type sounds.
I quickly turned the wiper off and it appeared that one arm had gotten loose and its connection to the motor housing's attachment point had separated. At first it was very frightening as so much noise was generated, but surprisingly enough no damage to the windshield happened (no scratches and no glass damage; cracks etc) thank goodness.
When back at my marina I took a quick look at the misbehaving wiper mechanism and saw it was not that easy to get things back in order.... I was tired so will leave the repairs for another day. My guess is that something had not been tightened enough during the boat's assembly as the boat is almost brand new.
