We just put a deposit on a new Cutwater 30 Command Bridge. We are excited, although a little nervous about towing. I have a RAM 3500 single wheel, 4x4, set up for towing.

I know people say it is easy to get permits, but is there a recommendation for a permit company? We will be going between Florida, Texas, and Oregon. We live in Oregon and Texas, but my wife loves Florida.

You can do them yourself on line It takes some time but not complicated.. I figured it out so really easy 🙂

There are some other forum posts where members have used a company to get permits. I suggest searching a bit as some of these posts are very detailed about their towing journey and offer a lot of advice that will save you headaches.

Congrats on the c30 your going to love it!

It is sometimes hard to find info, as there are so many posts. I think I an doing OK, however. Do you know of a good place to launch the boat for a Catalina trip? We are concerned, in part, about parking the rig. We have been on the Catalina "wait list" for many years and should be coming up for a mooring soon.

Catalina Island, California?

We used to live in Long Beach, CA, but don't know the rules for parking at launch ramps. There isn't much info on the web. We were hoping you had some insight into local launch ramps.

Take a look at Sunset Aquatic public launch ramp in Huntington Harbor. I have never used it but it looks a lot more secure than anything in Long Beach. The OC County Harbor patrol office is adjacent to the ramp. Its a 2 hour trip to Avalon at 14-15 Knots for us.

Congratulation on your purchase. I found that Boatus has an agreement with a group that specializes in obtaining travel permits for that very reason. I understand they can also plan your route to avoid any unnecessary problems. Read the post on towing 1500 miles. He just used the towing permit company and probably has better info.

Dana Point has a large launch ramp. You could check in with them and I've seen people park trailers over night (there is some sort of fee for this).

If you want help launching PM me and I'd be happy to help if I'm in town.

Re my question earlier: I'm just a little surprised to see tugnuts in our area. Love it.

Thanks for the responses. I am glad that I am using the permit service to start. I have found that my insurance wasn't enough for Mississippi, and I had to get commercial truck coverage (I have commercial coverage through my business, but always insured my truck personally). It's tough to get from FL to TX without going through Mississippi. Texas requires a bond which takes a few weeks to get. In fact, we may not get it before we are supposed to take delivery.

Once we have the bugs worked out, I might get my own permits, but believe that Mercury Permits will be worth the money for the first little while.

We left So Cal 10 years ago to cruise the S Pacific in our sail boat. We have since moved to San Antonio. We have been on the Catalina Island mooring wait list for over 15 years. We turned down offered moorings in Cat Harbor and Emerald Bay because we had no boat. We are still on the Isthmus and Cherry Cove list, and hope to get a mooring before we are too old to enjoy it. If we get a can, we will be at the island a lot.

Very cool. I'm on cat harbor and cherry cove wait list. Let me know when you get your mooring 🙂 - I'll make it worth your while...
