I am hoping someone can answer this...I have been unable to determine if my new Cutwater 28 will display seawater temperature (which is important to me for fishing). What I can determine is that the transducer is mounted in-hull vs. thru-hull if I'm not mistaken. That would eliminate the sea water temp from being displayed. Does the Volvo sensor set up send sea water temperature to its display or the Garmin's?

I have a 2020 r27 and the transducer is mounted above the hull and shoots thru the hull for readings. It does not have temperature. I think fluid motion builds all of their boats this way. I can’t say regarding the Volvo display as I have a Yamaha.
Hopefully some one else can add some more.

Hello,

Unfortunately the transducer we use doesn't have seawater temp available. The Volvo display doesn't have a seawater temp gauge either, if so it would the temp of the water going into the engine which wouldn't provide you with the correct temp. You could look into an additional transducer or a standalone seawater temp gauge. Garmin has a variety of options for this that would connect to the existing Garmin system. Hope this helps!!

Thanks,

Kevin,
Thanks a lot for the intel! I will look into other options.

I just added a Garmin external mount water temp probe GAR010-10717-20 as a quick and dirty solution as I decide which transducer to add. I also need temp for fishing and a much more powerful 1KW transducer, but, can wait till next haul out for the transducer. Note that the technician, whom I know to be excellent, said it took him 3 hours to install on my C302 and that it takes him one hour on most boats due to the difficulty to access all the wiring and required routing. Of course, thru hull transducers have temp sensors, as opposed to the in hull type that we have, and if you are sure which transducer to upgrade to, then, you get a two-fer. I'm advised that if you don't get a 1KW unit, you likely won't see much improvement over what is already there.

Thanks Rocky Lou. I am looking at transom mount transducers which should work well at fishing speeds that will have temp also.

Hi Gallantin,
Great to have other fisherfolk out sharing ideas. Our boats are not dedicated fishing machines and that presents a number of challenges. You are going to find a lot of commentary about how the twin stepped hull creates a great deal of turbulence, particularly in the aft section of our boats. That is a big reason why I'm waiting and considering. I think I need to mount a 1KW unit in the same area as the in hull, in order to get clean, undisturbed, water. In any case, I've got a year to figure it out and like everything else, it really depends on how you will use it. Another CW owner loves the dual unit for side view. Since I fish in the ocean, we hope we don't side view much of anything since it may mean you are too close to the rocks 😱

Tight lines.

I love the 8612 Garmin system on my R27 OB. With in Hull transducer, sorry no water temperature.

My understanding is that Fluid motion does in hull transducer because of high trailering customers. Understandable.

I also have a AIS 300 on my boat which is only a receiver, not a send and receive.

Two winter projects to be done are
1) Garmin AIS 800. Send and receive so other boats equipped with AIS can see me.
2) Also a transom mounted Garmin UHDClearview / UHDSSideview GTS56UHD-TM. Will solve water temperature and better for bottom definition. The in hull transducer is an 8 pin transducer, the GTS56 a 12 pin transducer. The 8612 has obviously the 8 Pin port but also a 12 Pin Port.

Due to in hull transducer I also could not get temp. I installed the Garmin side / clear view transom to solve my issue. Oh Well !!

I have 2020 C24C with a Garmin 942XS chartplotter and looking for a drop-in transducer replacement that provides water temp and enhanced Sonar.

following.

My Ranger 27 OB came with a IN Hull Garmin transducer. I believe the reason is most of the boats are trailered and therefore concern about damage and bigger problems. I add a transom mounted Garmin transducer this spring. Clear view/ side view and now have water temperature on the screen

Oh Well!!

Could you show me a picture of where you mounted the transducer on the transom? Thanks!
