I have installed a new helm seat on our R27 Classic. I got this idea from some posts I came across earlier where a member had seen a seat in a boat for sale and inquired about it. The factory responded that it was a Tempress seat. Another user (Trisailor) said he had installed one of the Tempress models and liked it. We decided to go with the Tempress ProBax Captains chair - I liked the high back and the armrests. Unfortunately they did not come stock in a matching color so I worked with the rep (Kim Mendoza) at Tempress.com and she sent me color samples. They have a tan and dark brown that complimented the interior of my tug quite well. We opted for an all dark brown seat with black shell. Note - extra $$ for the custom color(s). I originally installed it on the factory sliders but I messed up one of the slides and it was no longer useable. I ordered a new seat slide from amazon and made a new adapter plate. The seat moves easily and is comfortable - I have yet to take it out to test long term comfort. The arm rests could have been a bit longer, but they are a step up from no armrests. The seat does not fold, but it still tilts up out of the way and rests on the dash. There was nothing wrong with the factory seat, just wanted a more comfortable seat with armrests for our long distance cruising. I will now be working on new foldable footrest for my shorter legged pilots. More photos are on my album - Red Fury.

I too have installed a “captains seat” with arm rests and mounted it on the flip up board. But I found the factory hinges were too light weight to handle the torque produced by my weight (165 lb) on the arm rests when the boat rocks and rolls. Upgraded to heavy duty stainless steel door hinges (only sold in sets of three) from Amazon. Every thing is now great and long hours ( Tyranny of the Helm ) are no longer that taxing 😎 .

Alice J. I have not sea trialed the seat yet. I’ll keep heavy duty hinges in mind if these give me any issues. Thanks for the heads up.
