Yesterday was the anniversary of Superstorm Sandy hitting the Jersey Shore. Mother nature reminded us of her power with a pretty nasty Nor'easter. The boat shown below sank at the transient dock at our marina in Mantoloking. Looked like the stern of the vessel was facing into the wind and wave action just overwhelmed it.

The salvage crew is going to raise it with inflatable bags and then pump it out. You can see the diver's head sticking out of the water. This was at 3PM eastern, the crew said if was their fifth boat today!

Good lesson for us all. I believe there was an uninsured Cutwater in Canada that suffered a similar fate a few years back.

Having the stern facing the 2-3 ft waves at the Okeover Marina in Desolation Sound this September it, in my opinion, what sank the 16 ft runabout tied to the transom of a much larger boat.
Never tie the stern facing the waves!

So now what happens with the above boat…does it now “belong” to the salvage company who can do what they want with it?
