Good Morning!

Picking up a new (to me) R-27 next week and very excited about it.

The surveyor noted the search light (Jabsco cabin top mounted) did not work and that the Johnson high water alarm switch worked from the helm but the sensor did not work when tested. Are these easy fixes?

Also is it normal for the vessel to have a slight (2") list to port? I suspect it is because of the Mase genset on that side.

Edit: how often should maintenance be performed? Is there a good thread on maintenance for the R-27? I couldn't find one.

Thank you and I am very much looking forward to this boat!

Congrats on your new boat. What engine does it have? That will help with maintenance responses. Follow the engine manufactures maintenance guide in the engine owners manual, if there isn't one with the boat you be able to find it online.
The search light could be as simple as needing a new bulb, don't worry about it as the search light function is just about useless due to the glare coming back off the bow rail. The sensor is pretty easy to replace providing you can reach it.
All the 25's and 27's that have the genset will list to port, the batteries are also on that side. Try storing heavier items on the starboard side to compensate for it.

It has the 200 hp diesel.

The search light does not rotate or energize, ideas?

One last question (and thank you for the quick response!) the surveyor mentioned a high level of condensation was noticed at the starboard rear swim platform, does this mean it needs to be resealed? Is this a known issue?

On my C-28, the navigation lights must be on for the search light to work.

Congratulations on your R27, they are great boats.

The Johnson electronic water level switches have a mixed reliability record, I have had 2 fail on my R27. One in the high water alarm like you, and one on the upper bilge pump. The lower bilge pump electronic switch is still working great.

I replaced the high water alarm switch with a mechanical float switch from Borel manufacturing. This uses a sealed reed magnetic switch activated by a magnet on a float. Easy installation and very reliable.

They do not list this on the web site as a standalone purchase but if you call them you can buy it.

I replaced the upper bilge pump switch with an Ultra Bilge Pump Switch Mini:

This is a robust float switch that uses a magnetic reed switch controlling a high current relay.

Congratulations on your new boat. I see from your location you may be a Chesapeake Bay boater. Hope to see you out there.

On my 25SC I had the same list to port. We did not travel with enough heavy items to balance the boat and it was an annoying list to port when we sat at the dinette table. Also I found it limited somewhat the ability to trim the bow down when meeting head seas. So I moved the 2 house batteries to the starboard side cockpit locker and now the boat is perfectly balanced. We gave up some storage for larger items like fenders, however we now have storage in the port side locker. It would have taken an additional 200+ lbs of ballast to balance the boat, but since the performance of the boat is sensitive to weight we decided not to add the ballast. I would think the R27 would be very similar, maybe someone with an R27 could offer their solution.

Good luck with the new boat!

My search light stopped rotating after around 5 yrs on my previous R-25 (Classic). It had to be completely replaced/refurbished. My advice is if you want it to be operational is to check it thouroughly and replace if necessary.

If the searchlight has a remote check the batteries. Mine wouldnt run without it even when using the mounted switch. You might have to re-set it.

I will try that, thank you for writing in!

Separately, a few of the small plastic bits have broken (latch for swim platform access etc), is there anywhere online that the forum would recommend to purchase these parts?
