Hello All,

I'm new to this website and happy to be here have a new R25 arriving next week! I boat in Raritan Bay New Jersey mostly fishing and cruising. I'll drop a note on how my first cruise goes.

Bon Voyage!!

Congratulations and welcome to the community!

Cheers,

Bruce

Welcome to the RT family. Anxious to read of your experiences with the R25. We’re waiting on our new 25 to be built so all information is appreciated.

So new R25 arrived and only had it out once since but ran great. Still getting organized and hope to take it out by weekend but looks like a storm coming. Everything awesome and only low point is the refrigerator. I expected it to keep the contents colder after two full sun days of solar panel to energize. And with the shore power connected a few hours only cooled the items at a minimal. I guess the key is to use shore power overnight prior to going out.

Anyway boat is great. I love it! I need to get used to the throttle, handles a lot differently than my previous boat (28' Bayliner) but, all in all it's awesome. Getting a lot of looks and compliments at the marina.

Shore power does help the refrigerator get colder n faster. In addition the more content in the refrigerator the better it seems to work, but that’s not anything scientific it just seems that way to me.

You're more scientific than you know: We know a refrigerator doesn’t work best when it’s overstuffed. However, we know it won’t work well being empty either. Food absorbs the cold air, which helps to chill the food next to it. When the refrigerator is too empty, the appliance is working very hard just to cool a few items. You may find you empty refrigerator not cold enough, or you could find delicate items (i.e., lettuce) freezing.

An empty refrigerator is just not very efficient.

Also, put cold supplies in the fridge. If you put warm food and drink in there with the idea that it will cool it all down, it will just take longer for that cooling to happen.

Thank you all for your advice and will take them into consideration. Plan to go for a ride today or tomorrow.

See ya all on the high seas!

We trailer our R-23 and leave the refrigerator on all the time on shore power at the house. We leave drinks and food in it between trips. Always ready to go.

I can't leave shore power on all the time as my marina will start charging me extra $$ for consuming he extra electric. So I'll use shore power day prior to my trip which should be sufficient without paying the marina.

Thanks!

Hey, I'm your neighbor here in Hazlet with the 2007 R-25. It's awesome you got an R-25 SC. Let me know if you need anything. After owning it 15 years I know the R-25 inside out. I'd love to drop in and check out the newer version if you have the time.

Might be a dumb question, but did you make sure the refrigerator is turned all of the way up? Mine stays very cold, even in the heat of summer running on the battery bank.

Hi there. You must be the guy with ranger in Waackaack creek? You're more than welcome to drop in. heres my tel 732-668-4008 and text me when youre thinking. However I'll be there this afternoon and often there after 7PM nights.

And yes have fridge turned all way up. I' put more contents in and seem to be better but not good enough if you want an ice cold beer. But its adequate.

One idea many use fir that ice cold beer is to put one or two on the freezer ledge for 15 minutes and you’re good to go with the colder beer.

Yeah gonna try that too

Thanks!!

Unless your boat has had a modification you will not be able to run the refrigerator on the solar panel alone. If you are not plugged in to shore power you will need to turn the fridge off until you get back on to shore power or you have the motor running. The fridge will run the batteries down shortening the life of your battery string.

ok, that good to know. Thank you!!

My R-23, not on shore power - only solar, with fridge running, at 6:13 pm. The key is to start with a cold fridge. I leave ours running 24/7. I’m usually connected to shore power, but the comment about solar not supporting the fridge cause me to start an experiment. I’ll do this for about a week and see how it goes.

Factory 90W panel, btw.

ok, thanks for the heads up

I did not realize that but, thanks for that info. I guess I'll plug into shore power prior to trip is the key.
