New R29 Trim Tab question

I just took delivery of my new R29 and was curious whether there is a trim tab position indicator gauge that im simply not seeing. What do others do to determine the position of your Trim Tabs?

Hey Dan,

Congratulations on the new boat!! The trim tabs do not have an indicator but a good rule of thumb is it’s about 10-15 seconds from full up to full down and vise versus. Hope to meet you in September at the factory rendezvous.

On my new R29 CB NW Edition I also use the 10 second count for full up to full down and full down to full up. I try to always remember to do the full up after docking... but sometimes will forget. 😉

Agree about counting, and suggest to use 1-2 second bursts with a pause to see the effect.

As for retraction, I pretty much always forget (need to make that checklist ...) Yet I have heard that newer boats such as our 2019 C30 have automatic retraction. It looks like that is the case, visually; can anyone confirm?

If they are electric then very likely they do retract automagically.

My R27/OB had electrically operated trim tabs and they certainly auto retracted when I turned the engine off.

10-15 second rule works for our R-29. As far as retracting them, it's just become part of my arrival checklist: Drop the fenders, retract the trim tabs, lower the antenna, lower the mast (covered slip),etc.

I don't see this as in issue. It's good to have the trim tabs in their fully retracted position as this provides a full tank of hydraulic fluid in the tank to facilitate full extension of the engine hatch that uses the same hydraulic tank as for the trim tabs. If trim tabs not fully retracted there's a possibility there's insufficient fluid for fully raising the engine hatch.
