Hi all,
I am the first West Australian ( I think) to own a ranger tug. I took delivery of my EC21 tug in May this year so I thought I would share about the cruising area. I live in Perth, the worlds most isolated large city (1.6 million). we enjoy a mediterranean climate - no snow etc so we do not have a heater fitted in the tug. We have a river which is quite wide - almost a series of lakes - leading to a harbour at Fremantle and then relatively protected waters of Cockburn Sound and Gage Roads. The protection includes Rottnest Island about 11 miles off the coast and a major holiday destination. Fishing is plentiful. West Aussies love maritime sports sailing, skiing, fishing, cruising, diving, surfing, kiting and there are many boats but the tug gets lots of favourable comments and looks. It is able to handle the occasional choppy waters of the Swan River and the rougher waters of Gage Roads with ease.
To the south of Perth are several esturaries and rivers which we plan to explore in due course. To the east of Perth the Swan River flows past wineries and restaurants so it being winter, presently (temps 50 - 70 and some rainy days) we tend to head up river on a Sunday for a long lunch.
I am really happy with the tug for many reasons.I went to a boat show with my son just before he returned to France where he is a chef on super yachts. We were doing bonding, not looking for a boat when we spotted the tug.It ticked every box as to what I wanted in a power boat. (I have to admit my first passion remains sailing). Among them are the fact that our young grandchildren are quite safe on it because of the high sides. Of course they wear life jackets. It is also compulsory for all boats going to sea to carry a marine radio and a digital epirb.
I shall enjoy reading the posts of otther tug boat owners from time to time. I am thinking of naming the new tug "Skint" which is both a colloquial word meaning 'out of money" and an acronym for "Spent the Kids Inheritance on a New Tug"
Cheers,
Ogger

Welcome Ogger! Have been "down under" quite a few times, both on civilian business and when I was in the US Navy, helping you chaps build your FFG7 Class Frigates! I'm sure you'll love your tug, please ask for help, I'm sure Andrew Custis would like to make a service call!

Charlie

Welcome
I believe I saw your boat when I was up visiting Andrew at the factory. He said it was headed down under. You will got good pleasure from it and will save on fuel over the big white tubs your sharing the water with.
Enjoy

Welcome ogger, I'm sure you'll love that vessel as most of us do.

The only changes I'd make to mine are increase the length to 24 or 25 feet, the beam to 8 and a half feet, increase the hp to about 100 and replace the cockpit top with a hardtop (without fringes).

Oh yes, an opening front windshield would be very nice in these Georgia summers. 🙁

Welcome aboard Ogger! Its nice that we can have people from all over the world participate on this site. John Smale who you bought the boat from is a great person. He takes care of his customers and really cares for the product. If you ever have any direct questions, please dont hesitate to post on here or email me direct @ andrewcustis@rangertugs.com. Once again Congratulations!

Ogger:

We are kindred spirits as your sentiments to a large degree wrt buying a power boat align up with mine. 🙂 "Skint" is a good name in this regards. 😉

I have a nephew who lives with his family in Perth (wife and three boys). They emigrated from UK some 4 years ago. He's a Quantity Survey by trade and from all reports is doing extremely well. They are now truly Perthites. 🙂

Yes - from my knowledge of people in Perth and the Aussies, Perth is an area devoted to outdoor activities and especially ones dealing with water.

I first saw the EC21 on a trailer at my local gas station and Jeff Messmer was the driver. I thought at the time what a wonderful looking boat and quality exuded from it everywhere I looked. I chatted with Jeff at the time and to cut a long story short we now are proud owners of an R25 (just delivered last week). We love it and feel that grandchildren will be safe in it.

Let's see, Perth time is around +8 GMT. That means you're some +16 or +17 hours ahead of Seattle time. You're in the future. 🙂

Enjoy your new boat.

Gene: I think they call that an R25!

Please allow me to add my congratulations to the others listed here. We love our little tug and find it more capable than we would have ever imagined originally. I am fortunate enough to have visited your beautiful continent, but not out your way... perhaps we'll make a return trip and travel west. Best of luck and smooth seas to you!

Ogger,
Love you folks down there, after diving the Coral Sea for weeks and finally landing in Queensland it was better than home.( I would really enjoy a trip to the western part of your country.) I was invited to a Rotory meeting in Cairns and welcomed by everyone. I got into the computor business because of them. They were far ahead of us here in Montana. I have had a Radio Shack business for about 25 years as a result.

Congrats on your new Ranger Tug.
Beware of telling everyone how nice it is where you live. Here in Montana we keep info like that to ourselves. 😉
