My Wife and I are happy to be the "new to us" owner of a R25SC. We signed the paperwork this morning. I have been loitering on this forum for a couple months now, as many do, and the camaraderie of the owners along with service of Ranger Tugs that everyone raves about played a very large roll in our decision to purchase our Tug. Tomorrow I get the pleasure of spending a day with Kenny to go over the systems and get familiar with her. Based on everyone's experience, is there anything in particular that you would recommend that I get Kenny to show me. Has anyone gone throught the delivery and later thought "I wish I'd asked how to do that"? I know that so many things will go through my mind tomorrow that when it's over, that statement will cross my mind.

Anyway, we are very excited about our new endeavor. Our new tug will be re-christened "Midori" and be moored in Anacortes, WA. It won't be a long trip for us to the rendezvous this year 🙂 . We look forward to our many adventures. For that matter, we look forward to just hanging out in the marina with a glass of wine.

We are in Slip K25 at Cap Sante....and happy hour is at 5 every day...come on down. If our yellow R27 is in the slip, we are probably home. If not, we are having happy hour somewhere else. Look forward to meeting you soon.
 
Walldog, we will have to take you up on that some time. I know exactly where you're at. We were wandering the docks last weekend in anticipation and was admiring Willie's Tug as we strolled by. I'll bring the wine.

Herb, I was there today at 5:00, even heard the cannon kicking off Happy Hour and didn't see any sign of you (I know, very unusual ;-)). Paul and Tanya, check "next door" if you happen to miss Herb and Willie and we can celebrate your good fortune of acquiring your new vessel. If you find them home, I'll come drink your wine 😛 . Welcome to the neighborhood! What slip are you going to be in?

Welcome, Paul and Tanya, from a third Tugnut at Cap Sante. I guess we have a party line here tonight :lol:

I can't recall what I forgot to ask Kenny on my training🙂

He will do a great job with you tomorrow and there are lots of folks online who will be supportive also.

Feel free to come by slip P 25 when you are in the area.
 
Ask Kenny about basic things that you need to know to start cruising…

1) Note down the check list of things you must observe/do before leaving the dock

2) Note down the check list of things you must observe/do when docking and leaving your boat at the slip.

3) How to set total fuel on board and how to observe what fuel remains in the tank.

4) Phone numbers for Kenny, Andrew, Ranger spares, local Yanmar/Volvo service

5) Make sure Kenny has all your 'stuff' registered for warranty, engine, electronics, etc

6) Always start off from slip with wheel/rudder in midship position

7) How to operate the bilge pumps manually

8) If you have Yanmar engine make sure Kenny instructs you on how to engage neutral properly. If Volvo engine I believe neutral has a definite notch/detent for proper engagement.

9) Learn how to use the VHF radio -- especially for emergency situations

10) Basics for using the Chart Plotter and Auto Pilot

11) Have Kenny take you through maneuvering the boat at low speed and high speed and make sudden turns to get a feel for how the boat reacts.

12) Run the boat backwards… using rudder to control the boats direction… it's not the same as moving boat forward

13) How to deploy/retrieve anchor

14) Proper fueling procedure… how to avoid fuel spit back from the fuel vent.

15) Proper operation of the bow/stern thrusters (very nice to have when docking)… use short bursts rather than excessive long ones… docking is not a race… always take the time you need to dock safely

16) If you're trailering then have Kenny go over the trailering procedures; into the water, pulling out of water, on the road etc

I'm sure all of us have not remembered to ask certain questions during orientation day… there's simply too much going on and there's not really enough time.

Use the day to get a good understanding for the basics and get out on the water to start feeling comfortable with running the boat around.

first off welcome to Tugnuts and your decision to buy a great boat. I recently took delivery and believe you me regardless of how well you plan your delivery there is entirely to much information to be disseminated in one day.

If you are a new boat owner or unfamiliar with single screw and small rudder focus on handling, you want to be comfortable and not bang up your new toy, many of the systems can be learned while docked reading manuals, not the best utilization of Kenny's time...plus being 3 levels deep in your chartplotter while piloting your boat can be a bit much to take in.

And just because you have your delivery in one day that does not mean your relationship stops with the factory plus you have this forum with plenty seasoned folks to share advice.

We just traded our R27 called Snowbird for an R-29 named Agria.
Like we finally agreed on the name 😀 Our delivery date is this Tuesday
and Kenny is doing the Orientation so if you realize that you have
forgotten to ask him something--you can come to our slip and talk to him.

Thank you for all your great advice. We had a great day yesterday with Kenny. After our orientation we spent the night on the boat and started making notes for how to outfit her. Steve and Susan, we will be neighbors as we are in slip E-74. I'm sure we'll see you on the dock sometime. Congratulations on your new delivery.

Hi Paul and Tanya We were in slip 74 and just moved last month. We get our new boat on Tuesday.We will be putting all our stuff in the boat on Wed. Please stop by and introduce yourselves. We will have wine and cold beer. Look forward to meeting you both
