Hi fellow Tugnuts. My wife and I bought a 2014 R 25SC in November and are loving it. I have a question about single handing dock lines. My wife usually does the nimble acrobat thing, running from bow to stern while I try and back our boat into her slip. If we had a finger pier or dock, it is wouldn't be that bad, but we just have 2 pilings, with lines going perpendicular to the dock. We also have a cross wind or current every time. I would like to be able to take the boat out by myself sometimes, but how do you handle dock lines from inside a pilot house? I've always had outboards and an open cockpit. Any suggestions would be appreciated. We're not new to boating, but are new to nice boats

Some situations are tough to do single-handed... but you can generally work out a solution. If I am understanding your situation, is it possible to run a line around the piling and back to the boat? Then, you can untie at the boat and quickly pull the line around and back onboard. If you have a remote for your thrusters, you can correct movement with that.

Our boat doesn't have thrusters. On the rare occasion that I am single-handing, I try to run a line close to the cockpit cleat that I can pull off last and pull into the boat... then move (smartly) to the helm and power out.

The easy way is to attach some mooring lines to the pilings that you leave there. Just untie when you leave and retrieve when you return. If you come in easy, catch the stern line first and snug the bow over with the remote thruster control.

I have found that bow in tends to be easier. However the finger dock has to be long enough to be able to reach the cockpit.

Would it help to run a permanent line between the two pilings? That would give a grab line and would also keep the boat from going between . Also lots of bumper pads attached to everything..
