We have a 2017 C-28. I know when RT changed generator brands in about 2016, they also moved the black water tank and possibly the fresh water tank as well. Unfortunately, the Owners Manuals were never updated to reflect the changes.

i know where the fuel tank is located. That has not moved compared to the older C-28 models.

I think the fresh water tank is still forward of the fuel tank. Is that correct?

I have no idea where they moved the black water tank. It is not aft of the engine as in the older C-28s. Anyone out there know?

Additionally, I’ve located some sort of tank at the rear port side of the cabin area directly adjacent to the fuel tank. This mystery tank has a large (approx 4”) round screw on cap. I removed the cap and there wasn’t any bad odor so I don’t think it’s the black water tank. Any ideas on what that tank is?

It is the waste tank.

Thanks Brian!
Wow, we must have the nicest smelling black water tank ever!

On our 2020 C28, the freshwater tank is forward of the cave - you have to remove the panel in the cave to access it. The blackwater is in the same place.

it4llc,
Thanks for the access point to the freshwater tank. I’ve seen all those removable panels on the bow side of the cave but haven’t removed any yet to explore what’s behind them. I know one of the panels lets you access the rear mounting bolts/nuts for the wine cooler. The wine cooler is coming out next winter.

If Brian is correct, your black water tank may not be in the same location as ours. The access to the “mystery tank” that Brian thinks is the black water tank, is under the floor hatch right as enter the cabin from the cockpit.

2021 C-28. Wastewater tank is under the hatch by the range adjacent to the fuel tank. You can shine a flashlight on the top to see the fill level. Water tank is forward of the mid-berth and you can access it by removing the carpeted panels.

Sorry - I realized my comment wasn’t terribly clear. I meant ours is in the same place as yours, accessible from the hatch inside the cabin just inside the cabin door.

The freshwater pump is right next to the freshwater tank, so accessing that area is useful if you want to blow out the water lines for winterizing, add an accumulator tank, etc. I added an access panel to be able to access that area easier. It’s kind of a pain taking the panels on and off both because of the tight space as well as trying to get the screws to line up again.

Re the wine cooler, we took ours out as well. The panel for that is slightly different - if you are lying in the cave with your head to the starboard side looking up, you’ll see the panel above your head. Once you get that off, it’s easy to remove the wine fridge.
