I have a 2017 R23 in Hero Red. Love the color, but the way my lift is situated the starboard side of the boat faces south all day and gets very oxidized. The port side stays a nice red, the starboard turns pinkish. Anyway, each time I wax it I use the Meguiars polish/oxidation remover and the color comes back nicely, then I apply Collinite wax. Then a few weeks later it oxidizes again. My question is: have any of you tried these new ceramic spray top coats that seem to be gaining momentum (at least in advertising)? I'm wondering if they would help preserve the color for longer than just the wax coating. Thanks for any feedback. Hope you are all staying safe and healthy!

After a similar problem in Florida with a dark green action craft, I swore off of colored boats....until I found a 2009 red ranger tug. The boat had been sitting outdoors unused for a couple years and had faded to almost barbie pink in the most exposed areas. A hard buffing and wax brought it back to looking "good". Six months later, it was starting to fade again, so I paid a pro to go over it, four months later there was visible fading again.
Last month I had Kevin VanderHeyden (Premier custom ceramic coating, (360 471-5882) apply a ceramic system to the boat, and it looks "GREAT", as in brand new. He warrants the job against fading for 2 years, and it is expected to last up to 5 years with bi annual spray and wipe maintenance.
It was not cheap, but the process is very labor intensive- He had the boat for more then two weeks at his shop taking off all the old wax followed by extensive compounding and a bit of wet sanding. Kevin has a background in Autobody work, and the attention to detail was impressive.
If the product holds up as advertised, I think I got a good value- An 11 year old boat that looks like it just wheeled out of the 2009 Seattle boat show!

Thanks, Robert for your kind review. I posted a picture of your boat in 'my album' along with some other boats we have completed recently.

In answer to the original post:
The spray and wipe ceramic coatings have very little ceramic in them. They are good for short term and most have some UV protection which is better than wax. Since you are experiencing oxidation already I would suggest having a professional buff, polish and ceramic coat your boat.
Any questions or comments PM me. Thanks, Kevin

We were advised to only use Awlgrip products. No fading and a good wash and wipe down with Awlcare works.

Kevin knows his stuff... Helped me a lot!

Thanks for the responses folks. I'm going to buff it out and try one of the spray on ceramic polishes to see how that holds up vs. wax. Not ready to have the boat hauled out for the full ceramic coating yet, but that may come soon.

Send me your mailing address in a PM and I'll send you some Hydrosyrum to try, it's a six to 12 month product that I sell, it's made for Ceramic aftercare but it will work by itself it also works great for the Windows and is fast and easy to apply. Kevin

Excuse me for butting in, but is there actual mercury in this product? Hydrosyrum is an old term used for mercury (as well as quick silver) and the name you used implies the possible presence of mercury. So forgive this old tin head for butting in, but I'm always searching for that miracle product that keeps that hull nice looking and protected.

No mercury at all. It chemically bonds the the surface. Check out my web site for more info. Premierceramiccoating.com. Kevin

So just to be clear, you’re not offering an unbiased opinion based on some years of experience but rather a sales pitch for a product from which you’re hoping to make money?
