Good morning!

Does anyone do their own maintenance on the NextGen generator? If so is there a tutorial on changing the oil, filters etc? There are a bunch of great videos out there on the D4-300, but I can't find anything on the NextGen generator.

Thank you!

Hello,

Unfortunately we do not have any service videos on the NextGen generator but however, I was looking at their manual and it tells you what you need to do and also the locations of maintenance points. Here is a link to their website, you can download the manual from there. http://nextgenerationpower.com/3kwmarine.html. Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Thank you. It looks like no filter, just a cleanable screen. Should the oil used be 15W-40 (diesel) like the D4? That seems to be the case, and 1.0L needed.

Just did mine. Easy job. My process is, but note I am a challenged backyard mechanik:

1. Start generator let run for 10 minutes to heat up oil.
2. Turn off and remove cover, then I remove the water pump cover.
3. Pull out the oil drain line then remove the cap.
4. Put extraction tube from my portable fluid pump on the drain line with other end in an oil receptacle.
5. After oil removed I battle the bolt to access the filter screen.
6. When unscrewing the screen note once it is half way out their is more threading to be unscrewed, then just pull out.
7. Spray down liberally with electronic parts cleaner spray and then let dry.
8. Replace screen, tighten up, replace drain plug cap
9. Slowly add oil. Check levels periodically.
10. Replace water pump cover, confirm all fittings are tight.
11. Crank genie. At first it wont start as oil is not dispersed. Crank again should be good.
12. Have a couple of beers.

Just discovered this post as I am trying to find out the process for annual maintenance on the nextgen. Can anyone confirm the following:
1. Not oil filter - just screen
2. Oil type is same as volvo 15W40
3. Is there an impeller
4. Any link to part list (have the manual but as noted, they don't even list the oil weight)

Thanks.

1. There is no oil filter, just a cleanable oil filter screen.
2. Called Next Gen and confirmed that 15W40 is what is recommended; no synthetic. I use the same oil as what I put in the D4 300.
3. Yes there is an impeller - Jabsco Profile D 22405-0001-P
4. No parts list that I am aware of; I called Next Gen and ordered parts from them the first time I did maintenance. Happy to share if you send me a PM.

FYI - I asked Next Gen about changing the coolant and they said I could change it if I wanted WHICH I DO! They also said that they ship the generators to Ranger Tug with O'Reilly green anti-freeze. They recommend using 50/50 green auto anti-freeze. DO NOT USE VP YELLOW or you will have a big mess to clean up.

Hope this helps!

Mike

Don’t forget the Zert Anode, everyone seams to forget that. The owners manual will show where it is but check that annually and replace as needed. When we purchased our 2019 r29 in spring of 24 the factory paint was still on the anode nut and the anode was virtually gone. I think it is a 3/8. The one I purchased has an anode longer than would fit and I had to cut off about 3/4 of an inch of the anode to get it to fit.

I source the generator zinc from BoatZincs.com. It is an E-O; 1/4 NPT x 1-3/4".
