Has someone already figured out a way to trailer a boat north from Portland to Anacortes without having to use I-5 through Seattle? A work-around? Thanks from the First Mate on Regalo

I-405 on the eastside of Lake Washington is pretty much your only other option. Try to hit it in middle of the day.

SR 99 but thats a lot of lights. why no i-5?

Another option to Avoid Seattle would be to Launch on the Peninsula someplace. Poulsbo? Port Townsend? Kingston? Then boat to Anacortes. This would give you more hours on the water and less time on the freeway. The downside would be that it isn't all freeway towing on the Peninsula.

Just a thought.

Using I-5: Pick mid daytime and use the North bound Expressway to get through downtown Seattle. This Express lane starts just after the HOV lane ends entering Seattle from the south and exits at Northgate. Then proceed north to Everett and go though Marysville (both can be jammed up with traffic at any time IMO). Once north of Marysville it should be clear to Anacortes.

The best time to tow through from Portland using I-5 is very early on Saturday or Sunday IMHO.
Leave Portland and 5 am and not later than 6 am and you'll be through Seattle by 9 am and clear all the way to Anacortes.
You could also leave at 6 am and then bypass Seattle taking I 405 and make about the same time.

There is another option depending on your time constraints. You could use 101 from Olympia to Port Townsend to skip all of the bad part of I5. Then up Whidbey to Anacortes.

This requires using the ferry from PT Townsend to Coupeville but eliminates Tacoma/Seattle/Everett. Gorgeous, relaxing drive but 2 Lane Rd most of the way.
