BURLINGTON, Wash. — Nordic Tugs will temporarily close its Burlington manufacturing plant starting today, according to a company release.
"This step has been forced by the ongoing effects of the Great Recession, and the reluctance of customers to order new boats," the company said in the release.
Most employees will be furloughed, leaving a skeleton staff to field customer inquiries and maintain the plant in "readiness to resume production when business dictates."

Congratulations to Ranger Tugs on selling lots of new boats!!!!!!

That is sad. Our economy is sad. So many people are hurt.

It is very sad. Lots of discussion on the Brats site about it. SeaSport has been taken over by the bank, fortunately Triton, who has the C-Dory, Skagit Orca, Arima and TomCat molds bought from Fluid Marine escaped because of their different financing. They are still building those boats. We wish them well, along with Ranger who seems to be doing quite well, for very obvious reasons to some of us...'

Shame.... I heard about this yesterday from a boating friend while on my Marina dock. Nordic I'm told started off in Woodinville, WA -- which is where I live! Sad as it may be I'm glad I bought a Ranger Tug and not an equivalent sized Nordic Tug.

I'm sure we will witness other boat builders demise.

Here's an article about the Lindhout family and their new Triton Marine Industries (Osprey, C-Dory TomCat and Skagit Orca boats).

Very sad indeed. This will be great hardship for many families.

This isn't the first time that the luxury boat market has collapsed bankrupting companies and putting the workers out on the street - and is not the last... The Great Depression and the Luxury Tax debacle come immediately to mind...

Slight correction Charlie . Arima is totally independent for C Dory, the Lindhouts and their issues, and able to withstand this . I am a dealer of theirs as well and they have been stripped down and lean and mean for some time . They are finacially solid as far as I know .

Thanks Marc, I stand (or rather sit  ) corrected. We're just glad that anyone in the marine industry is still in business!

"mazel tov" or "hallelujah" or "Ill drink to" that , or something to that effect .
