Northeast gathering

Brian,

The ride from Block going towards Long Island can be tough at times especially when getting near Montauk. Running along the Rhode Island shore and a diagonal run before Fisher's Island to Orient Point may be a better option especially if winds are not in your favor. I seem to remember that from Charlestown RI to Greenport winds up being around 30 miles or so.

But then I can't get the Mrs up at the crack of dawn and fish for stripers on the South West Ledge.
Everything depends on weather.

You can try the Race off Fisher's Island. Plus, If the coast guard catches you with Stripers more than 3 miles off Block they will nail you. And believe me they are out there looking. Buoy 2 is just inside that boundary.

I'm well aware of the EEZ regs out there. Last year D.E.M. had a NOAA fisheries officer with them and they were boarding boats.

We will be leaving Thursday morning around 9-930 and heading over. takes us about 90 minutes to get there

Got a call from Mitchell Park Marina this morning, our reservation is now done. We will be arriving on Thursday, probably early afternoon.

For those who may want to drive and stay at a motel for the rendezvous we have made arrangements with the Sound View Inn. The telephone number is 631-477-1910. The website is http://www.soundviewinn.com. Rates start at $199.00 per night. It is about 2 1/2 miles into town. There is a cab service for those who don't have a car. When you call say you are with the “Tug Rendezvous at Mitchell’s Dock.” This will get you a 10% discount. The owner of the Inn is also a Ranger owner, but likes to keep their personal life private from the staff so she asked that you not refer to Ranger when speaking to the staff.

I recently tried to move my trailer in preparation for spring launching and found one of my wheels locked up. I took extra time in the fall to assure that there was not salt water on the trailer parts but...! The yard is now going through the four wheels to correct the situation. This happening brought to mind that perhaps we could get a subject matter expert to give a presentation on thorough trailer maintenance practices at the rendezvous..

Hello all,
Things are coming together and a great time is planned for our rendezvous in Greenport, Long Island from August 22nd to August 24th. We have secured a facility within walking distance of Mitchell Park, Claudio's. We will be conducting our seminars as well as our catered meals at this great waterfront facility. Among some other presentations that we are still working on, Garmin will be there to speak about the capabilities of our chartplotters, address questions, update software and work on specific issues anyone may have. They did a great job last year and I am sure this year will be the same. We will also have voluntary Coast Guard inspections. These inspections are a great way to ensure that you are in compliance and with you displayed inspection sticker will avoid and impromptu boarding's in the future.
Winter Island Yachts, the Tug dealer and Dave Bofill Marine, the Cutwater dealer from Long Island will be in attendance. This has been a great event in the past with many friendships developed, things to learn and areas to explore. Don't miss the fun, camaraderie and the infamous last man standing raffle.
We will be publishing a downloadable sign up sheet in the future, but for those of you who may want to get on board now you may e-mail me at mrizzo8743@aol.com or Carol Whittier at gipetto58@yahoo.com.
Space is limited so making your slip reservations now is advisable at Mitchell Park Marina, Greenport, NY 631-767-1267

Looking forward to seeing you all there

Mike and Carol,
last year we provided some of the paper goods for the pot luck and breakfast. Would you like Peggy and I to procure what you feel we will need for the event. If so, give me an idea of items and quantities and we will pick up the necessaries at Xmastree Shops.

Everything is set for our 2013 Northeast Gathering/Rendezvous. Click on the link below for the sign up sheet, agenda and all the information. We have an August 1st deadline for signing up so that we can get head count to the caterer etc. Reservations need to be made on your own at the Mitchel Park Marina in Greenport, Long Island. For those who are traveling to the event by car there is hotel information in this thread. We have several seminars planned along with, food, drink and raffles.

Hi everyone,

We have arranged for Vessel Safety Checks on Saturday morning during the Northeast Rendezvous in Greenport. Please let me know if you would like an inspection so I can confirm the Coast Guard Auxiliary examiner.

Only a few days away until we are in Greenport. We will be heading over Thursday morning, should be tied to the dock by 1030 ish. Hope the forecast stays good and the seas are calm. Looking forward to a fun weekend with fellow tug nuts

Same here! I will be arriving a day earlier to make sure things are in order and we have no hiccups. Keeping the fingers cross for good seas and weather.

We will be staying at Block Island Tues and Wed nights and head over to Greenport Thurs morning. If anyone else is planning a stop over give us a shout. We will be anchored in New Harbor.

As we approach the end of our Northeast Gathering/ Rendezvous we have another glorious day. It was a great time for all. A total of 11 tugs and 36 people attended. We had the opportunity to meet old friends and make new friends. The meals at Claudio's were great as well as our raffle and prizes. A special thanks to our sponsors, Bofill Marine, Winter Island Yachts and of course Ranger Tugs. Ranger was kind enough to send Kenny Marrs to us and he was a godsend! He worked his butt off taking care of some of our special needs and answered all of our questions. And when I say he worked his butt off I mean that literally. It was often that as you passed a boat that was all you could see of Kenny with head in the engine compartment!
Everyone got the coveted Ranger hat. Also thanks to our presenters, John Andersen from Garmin, Fred Klein from Volvo. Mitchcell Park Marina in Greenport was a great place and they were very accommodating in getting us all docked together.
We had a meeting regarding next year's event and voted on when and where. The tentative location will be at Mystic Seaport from August 14th thru 17th. The place and dates need to be coordinated with the facility, so they need to be reconfirmed, but for now hold those dates.
A special thanks to Carol Whittier for working with me on the last two Rendezvous. Carol has decided to retire from her position and Brian Norman & David Langham have graciously offered to take on her responsibilities. Amazing, two people needed to replace Carol!!
So, that's all for now. I look forward to seeing you all next year.

This was our first rendezvous with our tug and we had a fantastic time. Many thanks to all the sponsors and presenters. A special thanks to Mike and Carol for all the work they did in organizing the event and making sure everything ran smoothly.
We are already looking forward to next year's rendezvous and we have only been off the boat for a couple of hours.
Brian and Colleen

We had a great turn out and a great time. We a grateful for all that everyone did the entire weekend. We have spoken with the Seaport and have set a date with them unofficially. Unfortunately, we can not make the reservation until the end of October with them, but we have been told that the days we are looking at were not taken this year, so most likely will be open next year. I will keep up on getting a firm date with them.

Brian

We also had a great time and were sorry that we had to leave on Saturday afternoon. Thanks to Mike and Carol for their great work with the event. We look forward to Mystic Seaport, it is a nice facility and we have enjoyed the MTOA rendezvous held there.

Consider becoming a Mariner member of Mystic Seaport, the dockage discount for 3 nights will cover your membership cost. You can then visit the seaport at any time as well as other marine museums in the area with the reciprocity privilege.
