Hi TugNuts!

The theme for Novembers TugNuts photo contest is: Reflections. We all know those calm mornings at anchor, when the water is a mirror reflection of your surroundings. Let's see your best photos of reflections surrounding your boat or anchorage.

To enter the contest, please send your photo(s) and a description/story to briandickhaut@rangertugs.com

The contest is open until 11:59 PM PST November 30, 2021

One grand prize winner per brand (two winners in total, Ranger Tugs and Cutwater Boats) will receive a pair of Ranger Tugs or Cutwater Boats Jackets, following a vote from the factory.

To get us started, here's a shot I took at the 2019 Factory Rendezvous in Roche Harbor. It was a beautifully calm evening. This photo was taken just as the party was winding down. After everyone left the main tents, a good number of people turned on their cockpit and underwater lights to make for a spectacular display. My photo hardly does it justice. I can't wait to see what you all have to share!

I love reflections. It has become one of the “tasks” we are always on the look out for when boating. Especially on those beautiful quiet mornings. We love Desolation Sound and a favorite place to stop is Refuge Cove. This morning, May 2019, I was walking up to the ramp and was delighted to see a face appear in the water. After taking the photos, I was surprised to have 2 critters appear. There is controversy in the family whether it is a dog and Mantis, or a bear and a cat. We have never been able to see it since, but it was perfect this morning. I have dozens of beautiful reflections but this is by far the most unique.

"Great Dismal Swamp two months ago. Wife and I did the North Carolina loop. Tunnel vision set in after ten miles. Beautiful scenery and wildlife. We were the only boat in the locks that day and luckily the fly’s weren’t bad so we could open the hatches instead of running the air conditioning. Most people say it’s a one and done trip but
I would plan to do it again. It’s a time capsule of our nation."

"I’m a past winner of the photo contest. If this picture package happens to come out as winner, give the jackets to the runner-up or another deserving Tugnutter.

Anyway, in another lifetime, I was a newspaper photojournalist. I ALWAYS have my camera (or now PHONE) at the ready when I cruise. When a well-known National Geographic photographer was asked by a reader about the details of how he captured a spectacular photo, he would always reply, “f8 and be there!” In other words, it’s not so much the mechanics of camera, lens, and film, but rather the key to a great photo is having the camera there with you and then SHOOT THE PICTURE! How many times have you or someone said, “Gee, I wish I had my camera with me.”

All of these photos were taken from or next to my Ranger Tug R27. They illustrate the versatility of a trailerable boat— all were taken on trailered cruises in Florida, Georgia, Wisconsin, and Michigan."

"This is a picture taken from the cockpit of my EC21, on an early July morning. I live on the Alsea River, (Oregon) with my boat often secured to my boat house dock. Often, when the mist comes down the river valley, I often reflect on the trip taken to Misty Fjords National Monument. This little boat has been perfect, whether it’s tied up at home or cruising in far away places in this great country."
