I have just ungraded from R25 to R 29. The R29 has the rails on the swim platform. I had to get the extended Weaver Davits because of the fenders on the edge of the swim platform. My problem now, is were can I store the out board, have other R29 owners found a suitable place? Would the rail that the dinghy is resting on be strong enough to support the OB?
Thanks for any help.
Dave

I cannot advise on how to mount/store your OB as I don't own the R-29 model, but congratulation on the upgrade which is quite a step up. Very nice. Your profile still shows R-25... 😉

Maybe current R-29 owner's photo albums might help with the OB issue.

Could this post help you... http://www.tugnuts.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2496&p=18170&hilit=Outboard+storage#p18170 ?

Using the search feature for this forum you can dig out a lot of very useful information.

Dave,
We have a 29 and store our outboard, a 6 hp, on the rails. Ranger installed a brace from the back of the cockpit to the swim step rail to stiffen it up. I installed another brace for any side to side motion and it seems to work fine. I was told that Jeff traveled up to Desolation Sound last year with a six hp with just the one brace and it worked well.

Dave,
I have a 2013 R29 also with the extended davits and the rail. I mounted my Honda 2.3 on the port side 't' in the rail. That is right near the transom of the Ranger dinghy that we have. I put on a hard plastic plate which has has routing between the two pieces. I got it at Fisheries Supply in Seattle but have seen similar at other marine suppliers. We haven't experienced any problems. Good luck.

We just had a Weaver Davit system installed on YOLO (R-27).

We also had a second motor mount installed (fabricated by Peter Haywood at Winter Island Yacht Yard) on the port side of her transom.

I will take some pictures and post.

I added some pictures of my motor mount in my photo album.

Thanks you all for your congratulations and suggestions. I have attached a plastic holder to the T-section of the back rail, were the Merc 3.5 appears to be adequately supported. Barry I liked the pictures of your bracket on the stern of your R25, I used to have the plastic holder on the inside of the stern rail on my R25. We have now had the first 50 hour service and a ten day cruise, we really enjoyed the extra space. Had a couple of glitches, the Generator impeller had to be replaced after 10 hours and the anchor chain snagged the wire under the windless. This wire will need lengthening and routed away from the chain. The only addition that we had made to the R29 was an enclosure for the cockpit, we preferred dark blue to the Ranger brown, I have added a few photos to my album.
