We nave an R25 that we just purchased. She is a 2009 with few hours on her but neglected. The throttle and transmission cable must be linked, to allow for forward/reverse action (right?). I can put the boat in forward and apply power without problem.. issue begins when I put the boat in reverse ( with no problem) but cannot apply power beyond dead idle. Where do I start?? Thanks guys!!

The problem is either at the throttle quadrant at the helm or down at the engine. The quadrant is the most likely source of the problem.
First, have someone operate the shifter/throttle in the reverse direction while you watch the cable response down at the engine (engine off) Look to see that the end of the cable is properly clamped to the engine and not flopping around.

I am going to assume you will find the cable does not advance the throttle down at the engine with full movement of the lever towards the stern up at the helm - but does do so in forward.
At that point you will need to lift up and open the quadrant to see what is going on with the cam mechanism. This is not difficult but it helps to have had some mechanical experience. I had the problem of a vague Neutral which made me look more incompetent than I am, while docking. I opened the throttle quadrant and adjusted the cam setting. Much better now - well, except for me

Thanks!! I am on it and will report back. Dennis
